VMRDA’s ‘Ocean Deck’ Project Set to Transform Vizag’s Waterfront
Visakhapatnam, August 17, 2023: The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has set its sights on transforming the city’s beachfront with a groundbreaking project called the ‘Ocean Deck’. Tenders have been issued for the development of this INR 8 crore venture, which is poised to redefine Vizag’s coastal landscape.
The proposed ‘Ocean Deck’ project is slated to take shape near the VMRDA Park on the city’s iconic beach road. The undertaking encompasses the construction of a G+1 structure, spanning an impressive 91 meters in length. Of this expanse, a striking 45 meters will gracefully extend over the sandy shores, while the remaining 46 meters will venture into the embrace of the sea.
Earning the resounding approval of the VMRDA board in its recent meeting, the project’s concept is uniquely designed. It aims to combine form and function, offering a dual-purpose space. The ground floor is earmarked for the construction of a hotel, creating an immersive experience of oceanfront luxury for patrons. Rising above, a majestic viewpoint will be perched atop the structure, affording visitors an unobstructed panoramic view of the boundless sea.
The inspiration for this innovative initiative has been drawn from two successful similar projects located in Mumbai. The VMRDA aims to mirror its achievements while adding its own distinctive touch to the waterfront landscape. The key highlight of the project is the viewpoint itself, which is envisioned to be situated on a rugged rock jutting out into the sea. The physical connection between the coastal structure and the sea-bound viewpoint will be ingeniously forged through a transparent glass bridge.
The VMRDA is diligently pursuing a rapid timeline for the ‘Ocean Deck’ project. The selected contractor will be tasked with completing the construction within nine months from the date of contract award. Drawing from the success of a comparable venture in Mumbai, where a viewing deck at Dadar Chowpatty was constructed for approximately 6.1 crores and became a local sensation upon its 2022 opening, VMRDA is buoyantly optimistic about its own venture’s potential.
Anticipating a surge in tourism, VMRDA aims to draw visitors from far and wide to experience the captivating allure of Vizag’s ‘Ocean Deck’. With its ambitious vision of seamlessly merging architecture with the natural landscape, the VMRDA is poised to redefine the city’s relationship with its coastline, inviting both residents and travellers to revel in the beauty of the sea from an entirely new perspective.
