Goa, 26 June 2023 – In a remarkable endeavor to embrace cultural diversity and foster global tourism partnerships, a delegation of esteemed Tourism Ministers and delegates from the Tourism Working Group (TWG) embarked on a captivating journey through the enchanting state of Goa, India. Their visit to this coastal gem not only offered a picturesque landscape but also provided a gateway to the captivating history and culture of the country. Among the myriad of sites that left an indelible mark on their minds were the awe-inspiring Basilica of Bom Jesus, the intriguing Museum of Christian Art, and the majestic Mangesh Temple.

With the sun-kissed shores of Goa as their backdrop, the delegation began their exploration at the magnificent Basilica of Bom Jesus. This UNESCO World Heritage Site stands as a testament to Goa’s colonial past and serves as a significant pilgrimage destination for the Christian community. As they stepped inside the basilica, the visitors were greeted by an atmosphere steeped in reverence and serenity. The elegant Baroque architecture, adorned with intricate carvings and gilded altars, transported them to a bygone era of European influence. The delegation marveled at the preserved mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier, a revered Catholic saint, housed within the basilica’s crypt. The profound spiritual experience left an indescribable impression on their souls.

Continuing their expedition, the TWG delegates immersed themselves in the rich artistic heritage of Goa at the Museum of Christian Art. This treasure trove of ecclesiastical artifacts showcases the artistic brilliance of the Portuguese colonial period. The delegates were captivated by a collection comprising intricately crafted sculptures, exquisite ivory and gold jewelry, and delicate paintings that depicted the fusion of European and Indian artistic traditions. The museum offered a glimpse into the syncretic culture that evolved in Goa over centuries, a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western influences.

As the day unfolded, the delegation ventured further into the heart of Goa’s cultural tapestry, arriving at the revered Mangesh Temple. Nestled amidst the verdant foothills of the Western Ghats, this temple is a sacred abode of Lord Shiva. With its distinctive Goan Hindu architecture, the temple exuded an aura of tranquility and devotion. The TWG delegates marveled at the intricate carvings and craftsmanship displayed on every surface. The rhythmic chants of Vedic hymns reverberated through the air, further enhancing the ethereal ambiance. Witnessing the temple’s ardent devotees engaged in their spiritual rituals provided a profound insight into the vibrant religious fabric of India.

Throughout their visit to these historically significant sites, the Tourism Ministers and delegates of the TWG were not only spectators but enthusiastic learners. The rich history and culture of India unfolded before their eyes, leaving an indelible mark on their collective understanding of this diverse nation. They were not mere tourists, but participants in a cultural exchange that aimed to forge lasting connections and foster global tourism cooperation.

As the delegation bid farewell to the captivating state of Goa, they carried with them an abundance of memories, appreciation for India’s cultural heritage, and a renewed commitment to promoting tourism as a catalyst for mutual understanding and economic growth. Their visit to the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Museum of Christian Art, and Mangesh Temple served as a poignant reminder that the exploration of a nation’s history and culture holds the key to unlocking a world of shared experiences and boundless opportunities for collaboration.

India’s treasure trove of heritage awaits those with a curious spirit, and the Tourism Ministers and delegates of the TWG have returned home as ambassadors, determined to spread the message of India’s rich tapestry to the world. Their visit to Goa has illuminated the path toward a brighter future, where cultural exchange and tourism cooperation thrive, enriching the lives of millions and uniting nations across the globe.
