Corbett National Park/Corbett Tiger Reserve, Uttarakhand
Situated in the beautiful Uttarakhand, India, this national park is known for its diverse habitats, including grasslands, wooded forests, sandy banks of the Ramganga River, and hilly terrain in certain areas. Corbett National Park is home to a wide range of bird species, both resident and migratory, as well as mammals like the mighty Asiatic elephants, leopards, tigers, and many other smaller animals. This variety in landscape and wildlife makes it an engaging destination for nature enthusiasts of all kinds.
Dhikala is one of the most popular zones for safaris, with permits for this region often selling out almost immediately after they are released. It is unique in India for offering safari-goers the chance to stay deep within the forest with reasonably comfortable facilities run by the forest department. Advance booking of safari permits is essential to secure access to these sought-after zones. The park offers a range of options that are non-strenuous and suitable for all kinds of travellers.

Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh
Located in the tiger capital of India, Madhya Pradesh boasts several tiger reserves that are conveniently close to each other. This destination is particularly enchanting in the winter months, when the magnificent sunrises filter through the woods, creating scenes that resemble a painting. Adding to this charm are the elusive Barasinghas, which can be spotted here. For those looking to capture artistic photographs, this place is a winter must-visit.
To ensure a smooth travel experience, it is essential to book safari permits in advance. Be cautious of individuals posing as agents and always approach operators through trusted references. The park offers a range of experiences that are non-strenuous and suitable for all kinds of travellers.

Keoladeo National Park, Rajasthan
This gem, located in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, is a paradise for bird lovers and a must-visit for photographers looking to capture stunning shots. It is considered one of the most important bird breeding and feeding grounds in the world, hosting a diverse range of resident and migratory birds. Although accommodation options are limited, Iora Guest House is one of the cleanest and most reliable choices, managed by Mr. Devendra, a local bird enthusiast. In addition to birds, you might also spot mammals like hyenas, jackals, and nilgais if you venture into the park early in the morning. The experience is moderately strenuous, involving walks on paved roads.
4. Nagarahole National Park, Karnataka
This is yet another gem located in the south of India. Bursting with life, thanks to the backwaters of the Kabini Dam, which help keep the forest vibrant. The rich biodiversity here is truly captivating, and I’d say this place is quite addictive. The main attraction, however, remains the Black Panther (Melanistic Leopard), which has become a prominent and frequently photographed leopard in India.
Jungle Lodges and Resorts, a government-owned and managed operator, is the only provider of safari permits and also offers comfortable accommodation and food options. There are also several private properties offering luxurious stays and dining experiences, and they collaborate with Jungle Lodges for safari drives. The park offers a non-strenuous experience suitable for all types of travellers.

Vaalparai, Tamil Nadu
This part of the Western Ghats, often referred to as the 7th Heaven, is home to a diverse range of birds, animals, invertebrates, and reptiles. Vaalparai is a must-visit for photographers looking to capture the unique species endemic to the Western Ghats and to experience the lush, dense forests. It is an excellent location for photographing Lion-Tailed Macaques and Nilgiri Langurs.
Numerous NGOs are actively working to improve wildlife conservation in this area, and their efforts are evident to tourists. Unlike other national parks, Vaalparai does not offer safari drives. Instead, you can stay in estate bungalows that have been converted into homestays, allowing you to live amidst the wildlife. One place I highly recommend is Sheikalmudi Bungalow, managed by Tahr Trails, known for its delicious food, warm hospitality, and stunning views of the Aliyar Dam.
The experience involves moderately strenuous trail walks.
