At Artsy – Coffee & Culture, art is not just displayed, it is experienced in stillness. The current showcase focuses on the deeply introspective practice of Tapan Mitra, an artist shaped by the disciplined ethos of Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan. With works housed in significant collections such as the US Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Modern Art, and the Lalit Kala Akademi, Mitra’s oeuvre reflects both technical mastery and conceptual depth.
In The Art of the Absent Self, he departs from traditional portraiture, tracing identity through absence instead. Everyday objects and familiar forms take on quiet significance, standing in for the self and inviting a more reflective engagement. Rendered through the exacting process of serigraphy, where each layer is deliberate and irreversible, the works carry a sense of permanence, restraint, and emotional clarity. The setting at Artsy mirrors this sensibility. Conceived as a space that encourages pause, it allows art to blend into the rhythm of everyday life, dissolving the distance between gallery and gathering space.
Alongside the exhibition, guests can ease into the experience with a cup of coffee and signature bites, lingering over each moment as the art unfolds around them. The Iced Cappuccino is poised and understated, with espresso cascading over chilled milk and ice in a composition that is both crisp and indulgent. In contrast, the Vietnamese-style Iced Coffee carries a deeper resonance, where slow-pulled espresso melds with condensed milk and ice to create a dense, almost nostalgic richness. A Hazelnut Infused Iced Latte lends a quiet warmth with its rounded, aromatic profile, while the Cold Mocha Shake leans unapologetically into decadence, blending espresso and dark chocolate into a velvety, dessert-like finish.
On the food front, the offerings strike a thoughtful balance between indulgence and restraint. The Tiramisu French Toast is richly layered, espresso-soaked milk bread paired with coffee cream cheese and soft whipped cream, creating a dessert that feels both comforting and elevated. For something more substantial, the Kolkata Bhetki Steak brings quiet elegance to the table, its delicately cooked fillet is complemented by celery pesto, herb rice, and seasonal vegetables, all tied together with a silky beurre blanc. The Penne Alfredo de Jalapeño offers a gentle contrast, where a creamy base is lifted by the warmth of jalapeño pesto and a subtle note of white wine, resulting in a dish that is both indulgent and nuanced.
Together, the experience at Artsy becomes more than a viewing—it is a slow, sensory journey where art, flavour, and atmosphere come together with quiet intention.
