As more Indian travellers choose to holiday with pets rather than leave them behind, hospitality operators are increasingly adapting their offerings to accommodate changing travel behaviour. Reflecting this shift, Summit Hotels & Resorts has introduced pet-friendly accommodation across selected properties in its portfolio across Eastern and Northeast India.
The move comes amid growing demand for personalised and experience-led travel, where pets are increasingly becoming part of family holidays and longer leisure stays. Industry observers have noted a steady rise in enquiries around pet-friendly accommodation, particularly across nature-driven and hill destinations.
Summit will initially offer designated pet-friendly room categories across selected properties in Gangtok, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kaziranga, and Tashigang, with access limited to specific room formats including cottages, villas, premium rooms, and select ground-floor categories.
Commenting on the development, Sumit Mitruka, CEO, Summit Hotels & Resorts, said, “We are seeing a noticeable shift in travel patterns where guests increasingly want their pets to be part of the holiday experience. Destinations in the hills and nature-focused locations naturally align with this trend because travellers are seeking more relaxed and family-oriented experiences. Hospitality today is becoming more personalised, and adapting to changing guest preferences is becoming increasingly important.”
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader focus on strengthening experience-led offerings across its network of leisure destinations. A nominal fee structure for pet stays is currently being finalised and will apply to designated room categories.
