Delhi-based theatre collective Storee Ki Boree, known for its emotionally rich, child-led storytelling, is all set to stage its latest production ‘क से कहानी’ on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 6:30 PM at the LTG Auditorium, Mandi House, New Delhi.
The production is a moving adaptation inspired by one of India’s most beloved short stories — How I Taught My Grandmother to Read by Sudha Murty. The play follows the quiet yet radical journey of Vijaya who is a sixty-year-old grandmother in a North Karnataka village and decides to learn to read, guided by her young granddaughter Seeya. What begins as a summer routine of storytelling turns into a life-changing quest for dignity, agency and self-worth.
“This story is gentle, but its message is powerful,” says Shraddha Gupta, founder of Storee Ki Boree. “We are not just staging a play, instead we are celebrating the belief that it’s never too late to learn, to dream, or to begin again.”
Directed by Munish Sharma, the production weaves together theatre, movement and music to create an immersive experience that resonates with audiences across generations. Dialogues are by Mrinal Mathur, with dramaturgy support from Kavitha (Vishwa Shilpi Art Consultation, Bengaluru).
‘क से कहानी’ is more than a tribute to the well-known story, ‘How i taught my Grandmother to read’ — it is a reflection of Storee Ki Boree’s larger vision: to build emotional intelligence, empathy, and confidence in children and audiences alike, through theatre. With over 50 original productions and more than 15,500 hours of live performance, the collective has touched hearts from ages 3 to 80.
At the core of this effort is Storee Ki Boree founded by Shraddha Gupta — a team of theatre-makers and educators who have spent over a decade creating safe, joyful spaces where children’s voices are amplified and celebrated. Much like Sudha Murty, Shraddha believes in the lasting impact of value-based stories, especially when told with honesty and heart.
