Starscapes is set to host a special Lunar Eclipse viewing experience at Shama Desert Camp, Jaisalmer, from September 6th to 8th, 2025.

The 2-night event offers participants a rare opportunity to witness a Blood Moon rise above the vast Thar desert, a truly breathtaking phenomenon where Earth’s shadow paints the Moon in hues of deep red. Imagine watching this spectacle unfold in one of India’s darkest skies, far from city lights, surrounded by golden sands. As the eclipse progresses through its phases, from penumbral to partial to total, expert astronomers will guide you through every moment, decoding the science, history, and myths of lunar eclipses. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, combining raw natural beauty with cosmic wonder.

The event will bring together astronomers, photographers, families, students, and cosmic enthusiasts for guided skywatching, telescope sessions, astrophotography, and storytelling under the sky. It is an amalgamation of scientific observation with accessible learning, designed to help visitors experience and understand major astronomical phenomena in a practical, real-world setting.

Each evening will unfold with laser-guided constellation tours, mythological moon stories, and telescope sessions that reveal craters, rings, nebulae, and galaxies. Participants will also learn to photograph the Moon and night sky using both DSLR cameras and smartphones.

Beyond the skies, the days will include visits to iconic Jaisalmer landmarks like the Sonar Quila, Gadisar Lake, and Longewala War Memorial, adding heritage and culture to the cosmic experience.

    Event Highlights:

    • Lunar Eclipse Viewing: Live guided session with telescopes to observe the eclipse, along with explanations of the phenomenon and its phases.
    • Planetary Viewing: Telescopic observation of Saturn, Jupiter, and the Moon.
    • Constellation Tours: Laser-guided sessions on identifying constellations and understanding sky patterns.
    • Astrophotography: Instruction on capturing images of the Moon and night sky using DSLR cameras and smartphones.
    • Solar Observation: Daytime viewing of the Sun’s surface features through a solar telescope.
    • Astronomy Activities: Interactive sessions, quizzes, and hands-on learning for all age groups.
    • Cultural Additions: Evening campfire, local cuisine, and sightseeing including Jaisalmer Fort, Patwon Ki Haveli, and Gadisar Lake.

Commenting on the event, Ramashish Ray, Founder, Starscapes, said, “Jaisalmer offers one of the clearest skies in India, especially during this time of year. Hosting a Lunar Eclipse viewing here combines a rare astronomical event with a rich cultural setting. With this experience, we aim to make astronomy more accessible and engaging for people of all backgrounds.”

Starscapes aims to make astronomy more approachable by creating real-world experiences linked to rare celestial events. With the Jaisalmer eclipse event, the company reinforces its goal of turning unique natural locations into interactive spaces for skywatching and space education. By combining expert guidance with hands-on learning, Starscapes continues to build interest in astronomy as both a recreational and educational pursuit.
