    Shri Nitin Gadkari reviews progress of Kaziranga Elevated Road project

    Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, recently reviewed the progress of the Kaziranga Elevated Road project. The initiative involves the construction of approximately 34 kilometers of elevated roads at locations identified by the Wildlife Institute of India, where animal crossings occur. In addition, the project includes the widening of the intervening at-grade road to a 4-lane highway, totaling about 50 kilometers in length, and the construction of tunnels spanning approximately 3 kilometers.

    Shri Gadkari explained that, as part of efforts to optimize costs, the construction of the tunnels will be treated as a separate project, and the debris and muck resulting from their construction will be used in the road works. He also suggested that viewing platforms be included on the elevated road, complete with vehicle parking and kiosks, to provide tourists with an opportunity for wildlife watching.

    The Kaziranga Elevated Road project aims to provide a safer and faster route for travellers passing through the Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Shri Gadkari emphasized the importance of completing the project in a timely manner while ensuring that the elevated highway does not harm the environment or wildlife in the area.

    Shri Nitin Gadkari has been involved in several other infrastructure projects in India, including the development of highways, ports, and waterways. His goal is to improve connectivity and transportation in the country while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly development practices.

    The Kaziranga Elevated Road project is expected to improve connectivity and safety for travellers passing through the Kaziranga National Park while minimizing the impact on the environment and wildlife in the area. With the guidance of Shri Gadkari, the project is expected to be completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
