Sharjah continues to strengthen its position on the global tourism map, recording a remarkable 38% growth in tourism performance in 2025, driven by strong international demand and strategic market focus. India remains one of Sharjah’s most important source markets, ranking among the emirate’s top five source markets and playing a pivotal role in this upward trajectory.

Building on consistent year-on-year growth, Sharjah welcomed more than 172,000 Indian visitors in 2024, a figure that laid a strong foundation for the significant growth witnessed in 2025. The 38% increase this year underscores the effectiveness of Sharjah’s targeted tourism strategies and India’s sustained contribution to the emirate’s overall visitor growth.

    India: A High-Value, High-Priority Market Driving 2025 Growth

In 2025, Sharjah has seen a continued rise in luxury and experiential travel from India, particularly from key metropolitan cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This trend has contributed meaningfully to the emirate’s 38% growth, with an increasing number of high-net-worth individuals and affluent families seeking premium, culturally immersive experiences that align seamlessly with Sharjah’s authentic tourism offering.

“India today is not only a strong volume market for Sharjah but also one that delivers high value and deeper engagement,” said H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA). “This has been instrumental in driving our strong performance in 2025 and positions India as a strategic growth market for the years ahead.”

Sharjah’s tourism sector has thrived in 2025, supported by strategic investments in infrastructure, accessibility, and sustainability, contributing directly to the emirate’s 38% growth. Key projects such as the Kalba Road expansion and upgrades to major transport corridors have significantly improved connectivity across Sharjah.

Looking Ahead to 2026: Expansion and Future-Ready Tourism

Building on the strong momentum of 2025, Sharjah’s tourism outlook for 2026 is highly positive. The emirate is set to welcome new hotel openings and enhanced visitor experiences, designed to meet evolving global travel preferences and increased demand for sustainable, experiential, and high-quality tourism.

Through a balanced approach that integrates heritage preservation, environmental sustainability, and modern infrastructure, Sharjah is reinforcing its position as a distinctive destination on the global tourism stage.

    Sharjah’s Tourism Vision

“Sharjah is well on its way to becoming a leading global tourism destination,” added H.E. Al Midfa. “Our infrastructure investments, commitment to sustainability, and focus on luxury and cultural tourism are key pillars of our long-term vision. We aim to offer something for every traveller, whether it is heritage exploration, luxury experiences, or nature-based adventures.”

India remains central to this vision. With the UAE’s cooler months approaching, Sharjah anticipates a further surge in Indian visitors eager to explore its expanding portfolio of cultural, luxury, adventure, and eco-tourism offerings.

“As India’s travel market continues to evolve, Sharjah is well positioned to meet those expectations,” H.E. Al Midfa concluded. “We look forward to deepening our relationship with Indian travellers and welcoming them to discover Sharjah, where authenticity, heritage, and innovation come together in perfect harmony.”
