Sarla Aviation announced formal MoU for its upcoming 500-acre aerospace giga campus was signed and handed over personally by visionary Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of Shri Ram Mohan Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Shri B.C. Janardhan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Roads & Buildings and Infrastructure & Investment, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Sarla Aviation expresses its deep appreciation for the proactive support and guidance of Shri B.C. Janardhan Reddy who has played a pivotal role in enabling this transformational project.
Spread across 500-acres, this will be a next-generation integrated Urban Air Mobility (UAM) giga facility that will manufacture electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft and power India’s entry into the era of aerial mobility. With an initial investment of ₹1,300 crore and significant additional investment planned in the future, the project positions India as a global contender in future aviation technologies.
Sarla Aviation’s vision for the world’s biggest sky factory is strongly aligned with the national development agenda of Viksit Bharat 2047, articulated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, and with Swarna Andhra 2047, the bold vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister to build a prosperous, future-ready Andhra Pradesh. Globally, only a few regions such as California and Munich are emerging as eVTOL manufacturing hubs. Under the visionary leadership of CM, Andhra Pradesh is now set to become the next global epicenter of this rapidly advancing industry, and Sarla Aviation is honoured to contribute to this historic transformation.
Commenting on the launch, Rakesh Gaonkar, Co-Founder & CTO, Sarla Aviation, said, “With the world’s biggest sky factory, we want to make India a nerve centre for the next era of flight. This giga facility will shape the aircraft of the future, create thousands of high-skill jobs, and establish India as a global force in sustainable aerial mobility. Our goal is simple: let India design, build, test, fly, and operate the world’s most advanced eVTOL systems from one integrated campus.”
Once operational, the giga campus will become India’s first fully integrated ecosystem for eVTOL manufacturing, flight testing, certification, training, and maintenance. Designed to international aerospace standards, the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 1,000 aircraft every year, making it one of the largest eVTOL manufacturing hubs worldwide.
The sky factory will bring together advanced manufacturing lines for composites, powertrain, wire harnesses, landing gear systems, flight control computers and embedded systems, supported by India’s largest wind tunnel and a dedicated two-kilometre runway and purpose-built VTOL testing pads. It will house modern R&D labs, simulation environments, pilot training centres, and MRO units, enabling the entire lifecycle of eVTOL aircraft to be built and supported within India for the first time.
The campus is being designed with sustainability at its core, integrating renewable energy systems, water-recycling and zero-liquid-discharge mechanisms, and circular-economy practices for composites and metals. Large green buffers and biodiversity conservation zones are planned to ensure environmentally responsible growth.
Sarla Aviation is working closely with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to co-develop infrastructure for certification, R&D, and operational readiness. The collaboration will help build dedicated UAM corridors and vertiports, laying the groundwork for commercial air-taxi services across major South Indian cities by 2029.
The sky factory is expected to significantly boost India’s aerospace value chain by creating new high-tech employment, enabling local MSME participation, and reducing dependence on imported aviation technologies. By manufacturing critical aircraft components domestically, Sarla Aviation aims to accelerate India’s journey toward becoming a global hub for UAM manufacturing and operations.
