Sambhar Festival would kick start from February 17 in Jaipur
To promote tourism in the state, the Jaipur district administration and the state tourism department are jointly organizing Sambhar Festival. The three-day festival would kick start from February 17.
“After the Kite Festival, Dhulandi Festival, Teej Festival and Gangaur Festival, we want to make the Sambhar Festival a major centre of attraction for local, domestic and foreign tourists. An array of events had been decided for this year’s event,” said Jaipur collector Prakash Rajpurohit after a meeting with the tourism department officials regarding preparations for this festival.
Officials are hoping that a large number of local, domestic and foreign tourists will participate in this festival. Special events like adventure bike rides, full-moon events, kite flying, camel ride, parasailing, ATV ride and motorcycle rally will be organized during the festival. Even the tourism department had planned events like photography exhibition, Sambhar Lake visit, Sambhar salt processing tour, bird watching and folk programmes.
“We have already assigned responsibilities to the respective officers of the concerned departments for organising the events and providing facilities for tourists participating in this festival. Elaborate arrangements have been made to make this event a grand success,” said additional district collector (III) Ashok Kumar Sharma, who has been appointed as the nodal officer for Sambhar Festival.
Deputy director of the tourism department Upendra Singh Shekhawat was also present in the meeting. “A special talk show has also been planned to acquaint the tourists with the history and heritage of the lake and information on the local and migratory birds available in Sambal,” he said. On the last day of the Sambhar Festival, the winners of the competitions held during the festival will be honoured by the tourism department.
