INDIA, November 25, 2024: In the heart of Helsinki, at 22 Annankatu, Roastery Coffee House opens its doors to the world, marking its global debut. With origins in Hyderabad and a mission to brew India’s finest beans for a global audience, Roastery has steadily built a reputation for transforming coffee culture since 2017. By 2023, it had established a stronghold in six Indian cities, including Kolkata, Lucknow, Jaipur, New Delhi, and Noida.

Roastery Coffee House has always followed a distinctive approach. While many Indian specialty coffee brands focussed on launching in metropolitan hubs, Roastery made its mark in cities like Hyderabad, Lucknow, and Jaipur; places previously unfamiliar with the concept of specialty coffee. By introducing a modern Indian coffee experience in these regions, the brand not only sparked a cultural shift but also built thriving local communities. Helsinki, a city celebrated for its discerning coffee drinkers, now becomes the next chapter in this journey.

The opening is also a tale of friendships crossing geographies. Nishant Sinha, founder of Roastery Coffee House, credits his collaboration with Finnish Barista Champion Kaapo Paavolainen as instrumental in this venture. Kaapo, now the Global Coffee Director at Roastery, leads the Helsinki operations with a shared enthusiasm for experimentation and quality. Together, they envision creating a coffee experience that reflects the best of both cultures while pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship.

“Opening in Helsinki is a meaningful milestone for us. Indian coffee has an incredible story waiting to be told. By bringing our craft to Finland, we hope to create experiences that linger with people. Helsinki, with its vibrant coffee culture, provides the perfect backdrop for this exchange of ideas, flavours, and traditions,” says Sinha.

Roastery’s signature design philosophy, ‘Modern Indian Minimalism,’ finds a new expression in Helsinki. The café blends traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary Nordic design, featuring arches, chessboard floors, and pillars awash with natural light. Sustainability remains at the core of their design choices, including the use of FSC-certified Indian rosewood and eco-friendly packaging.

Helsinki presents a unique opportunity to connect with a population renowned for its sophisticated coffee palate. Finland drinks more coffee than any other country in the world. Globally, Finland’s coffee culture is celebrated as a benchmark of excellence, making it an ideal destination to showcase Roastery’s offerings. Establishing a presence in such a discerning market reinforces the brand’s commitment to quality and sets the stage for meaningful cultural exchange, blending Indian coffee heritage with Finland’s rich coffee traditions.

Roastery’s ability to make specialty coffee accessible to audiences beyond younger demographics has been pivotal to its success. In India, its presence in non-metropolitan cities introduced entirely new segments to the world of fine coffee. Similarly, Helsinki presents an opportunity to engage with a population known for its sophisticated coffee palate. Globally, Finland’s coffee preferences are regarded as a benchmark, and earning their approval is a hallmark of quality.

Helsinki is only the beginning. Roastery Coffee House is already planning its next ventures in Copenhagen and London, aiming to take India’s coffee narrative further onto the global stage.
