How does DoubleTree by Hilton Goa Panaji tackle the challenges of incorporating sustainability and environmentally friendly practices in their luxury hotel brand?
At Doubletree by Hilton Goa Panaji, we are dedicated to embracing sustainability and fostering environmentally friendly practices. As part of Hilton’s brand initiative, “Travel with Purpose,” we actively strive to implement measures that promote sustainable hospitality and reduce our environmental impact.
Through our concerted efforts, we have significantly reduced energy consumption by incorporating energy-efficient lighting. Moreover, we have regulated water usage through a water reclamation system that supports our gardening activities.
Taking our commitment to waste management, we have incorporated recycling initiatives through a new-age composter and have tied up with local recyclers for dry waste dispensation.
What steps can hotels take to meet the changing expectations of customers in the post-pandemic world and improve personalized guest experiences?
As part of our commitment to crafting unforgettable moments, we have designed an array of activities that are sure to delight guests of all ages. The guest experience starts before arrival, which involves sending a pre-arrival email inquiring about their preferences, which is further incorporated into personalizing the stay experience.
In the resort, we firmly believe that vacations should be without strings attached and therefore we offer seasonal room amenities, a mini bar with compliments, evening refreshments on the house and a lavish breakfast spread for all packages. We do not differentiate offerings on room rates and follow a standardized offering for all our guests.
What is your perspective on the increasing trend of inbound travel check-ins in five-star hotels in India and how do you foresee the future of the industry?
The increasing trend of inbound travel indicates a positive trajectory for the hospitality industry. Several reasons are contributing to this phenomenon, India has witnessed steady economic growth in all sectors and has seen a foray of multinationals and collaborators in all sectors resulting in a steep rise in business travel.
Juxtaposing business travel is the leisure segment that has seen a rampant increase due to the global positioning of India as a tourist destination. “Incredible India” marketing campaigns along with states taking the baton to display their rich heritage and culture have certainly paid dividends.
How does the return of ‘Big Fat Indian Weddings’ and other international events contribute to the support and growth of the hospitality industry?
With the increase of high-net-worth individuals, social events have seen extravagance metamorphosed into lavish showcases. Guests do not wish to compromise on the celebration quotient and this has resulted in the utilization of banquet spaces in hotels and resorts. Akin to this is the increase in MICE events across the length and breadth of the country, which has greatly improved occupancy and average selling rates in the hospitality sector.
Could you share some examples of energy conservation measures that have been implemented or are planned at your luxury hotel?
Environmental protection and providing eco-friendly hospitality experiences are at the core of our values. As part of our commitment to sustainability with Hilton’s ‘Travel with Purpose’ program, we have implemented a series of energy conservation measures that underscore our dedication to responsible practices.
To reduce our environmental footprint, we are gradually transitioning away from single-use plastic. We have established a comprehensive food waste recycling programs. These initiatives efficiently transform food waste into nutrient-rich compost. This valuable compost is thoughtfully utilized in nurturing our resort gardens promoting a virtuous cycle of sustainability while minimizing landfill waste.
LED lights have been implemented in the resort and solar lights are installed in lawns as part of the sustainability initiative. Our heat pumps are electric and that safeguards carbon monoxide emissions from the traditional fuel enabler.
Our water reclamation system, allows us to treat and reuse greywater for gardening and room flush. To complement these efforts, water-saving fixtures and faucets have been installed to optimize water consumption.
