Auriga Hospitality announces the launch of Public, a no-reservations beer hall and snack bar in Versova. Envisioned as a fuss-free neighbourhood hangout inspired by iconic Indian beer halls, nostalgic gymkhanas and old-world Irani cafés, PUBLIC Beer Hall & Snack Bar is built around simple pleasures – cold beer & straight spirits, tasty Indian regional snacks (no french fries or nachos here) and a place you can come back to again and again. A place for banter, rather than storytelling (we want you to share your stories!) Public aims to be a convivial, affordable space for extended drinking sessions and everyday good times.
Public keeps things straightforward with the coldest beers in town*(probably!), spanning regular and craft options & a full spirits selection. Cocktails be damned, but ask nicely and we will make your favourite within reason. With genuinely affordable pricing across categories and a clear refusal to follow trends, Public fills the long-ignored gap between high-end cocktail bars and old-school quarter bars.
Staying true to that philosophy, Chef Sohini Bhattacharya’s hyper-regional menu is intentionally designed to pair effortlessly with long drinking sessions and provide relief from the edamame/truffle/avocado trifecta of tyranny. The snacks menu features – Touchings, Snacks, Sigri/Tawa, Tangra/Mountain classics and a few Chef’s favourites and a handful of meal options for the ravenous tippler. “This is food that’s meant to be eaten with your hands, with a drink on the other hand, familiar, regional and full of flavour, without trying to be clever,” says Chef Sohini. We have decided to feature drink friendly food primarily from the communities and states of India as there is no need to look beyond.
Designed by Shweta Kaushik of SKID, the space is a dive-bar-meets-beer-hall in Versova that channels Bombay’s everyday social energy through a bright, democratic and unpretentious interior. Set within the former Jamjar Diner space, the 1,700 sq ft bar seats around 100 and moves away from dark, moody bar tropes in favour of openness and familiarity. Exposed beams, metal reinforcements and structural irregularities are celebrated as part of the design narrative, paired with an honest palette of Kota- and Kadapa-inspired stone, aluminium and simple wood. Subtle elements of “clean kitsch” emerge through shifting tiles, imperfect alignments and mid-surface material transitions, creating a space that feels intentional yet relaxed—unmistakably Bombay in spirit, but distinctly contemporary.
