Piyali becomes the first woman to reach Dhaulagiri without oxygen support
Mountaineer Piyali Basak from Chandannagr , West Bengal has made new record today when she successfully climbed Dhaulagiri (8167 meter) in Nepal. The news was confirmed by Pioneer adventure, an association of Kathmandu Mountaineering fascinators. With this special achievement Piyali has become the record holder of not only the first woman from India to win this challenge but also the first one to do it without using Oxygen mask.
Mountaineers fraternity from all over the country have expressed their delight and congratulations to Piyali. It is believed to be quite a difficult challenge and remarkable achievement to make this possible, Dhaulagiri is the world’s seventh highest mountain. The name is derived from two Sanskrit words meaning “white mountain” has always been one of most attractive and challenging expeditions for mountaineers from all over the world.
Besides Piyali there were Baljit Kaur ( two of them being the first women from India to achieve this ), Palkesh and five other Sherpas who have completed this special accomplishment.
