At a time when sustainability has become central to the hospitality discourse, the Sustainability Summit & Awards 2025 honoured a career that placed environmental responsibility at its core long before it became an industry mandate. Param Kannampilly, Executive Chairman of Concept Hospitality Pvt Ltd, has been conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sustainability Summit & Awards, held in association with Hospitality Horizon at the Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai on December 16, 2025. The award recognises his enduring commitment to environmental stewardship and his seminal role in embedding sustainability as a core pillar of modern Indian hospitality.
Speaking on the occasion, Param Kannampilly said, “Sustainability has never been a strategy for me. It has been a way of thinking since the very beginning. Hospitality is about care, not only for guests but also for the environment and the communities we operate in. When sustainability is integrated thoughtfully, it elevates the experience rather than limiting it. I firmly believe that responsible practices can coexist with luxury, efficiency and profitability and our journey has proven exactly that.”
With a career spanning over five decades, Kannampilly has been among the earliest hospitality leaders in India to champion the belief that environmental responsibility and luxury are not mutually exclusive. From his formative years in hotel operations and leadership roles across some of the country’s most respected hospitality groups, he consistently advocated for responsible resource management, people-centric practices and long-term value creation well before sustainability became an industry imperative.
His most defining contribution lies in pioneering eco-conscious hospitality at scale. Through his entrepreneurial journey and the founding of Concept Hospitality Pvt Ltd, Kannampilly conceptualised and nurtured The Fern Hotels & Resorts, a brand that has become synonymous with environmentally sensitive luxury. The group’s emphasis on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management and sustainable design has not only set new benchmarks but also demonstrated that green practices can seamlessly enhance guest experience without compromising comfort or quality. Earlier in his career, his involvement in developing The Orchid Mumbai as Asia’s first Ecotel Hotel marked a watershed moment for the industry and firmly established sustainability as a viable and aspirational business model. Over the years, his work has influenced policy frameworks, hospitality education and operational standards across the sector, reinforcing the idea that sustainability must be embedded by design rather than treated as an afterthought.
The Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sustainability Summit & Awards acknowledges Kannampilly’s far-reaching impact as a visionary leader whose work continues to shape a more responsible and future-ready hospitality industry. His legacy stands as a powerful reminder that enduring success is built on principles that respect both people and the planet.
