Mugdha Sinha Appointed as New Director General of Tourism
Mumbai, August 7, 2024: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has announced a significant reshuffle of IAS officers, with fourteen officers receiving new assignments at the Additional Secretary level. Among the notable changes, Mugdha Sinha (IAS: 1999: RJ) has been appointed as the new Director General of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism, replacing Manisha Saxena (IAS: 1996: AGMUT).
Mugdha Sinha brings over twenty-five years of extensive experience in governance, policy-making, and international trade negotiations. She has previously worked in the Ministries of Textiles, Industry and Commerce both at the Centre and in her cadre state, Rajasthan. Her experience also spans roles in Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, and Science and Technology. Most recently, Sinha served as the joint secretary in the Ministry of Culture.
Manisha Saxena, who previously held the Director General of Tourism position, has been appointed as Additional Secretary, Department of Personnel & Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Saxena’s new role was facilitated by the temporary upgrading of a vacant post of DS/Director in the Department, as per an official circular.
Saxena brings a wealth of experience, having served in the Government of Mizoram as Principal Secretary of Tourism and Secretary (Tourism). An alumnus of Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi, she also held the position of Principal Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi, up until July 2022. During her tenure in the Ministry of Tourism, Saxena supervised various projects and represented the Ministry at numerous industry and national-level events.
Sinha’s appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives to the Ministry of Tourism, leveraging her diverse experience to drive new initiatives and enhance India’s tourism sector.
