Mountain Retreats : A Journey Through The Shervani Hospitality
I have a deep fondness for visiting the mountains during the monsoon season. The view of fluffy white clouds swirling playfully around the majestic Himalayan peaks, sometimes peeking right into the rooms, along with the crisp freshness in the air—everything about the monsoon mountains captivates me. So, when the chance arose in early September to explore the three stunning properties of the Shervani group, I simply couldn’t resist the lure.
Shervani Hilltop: A Heritage Welcome
The first stop was Shervani Hilltop, a heritage building constructed in the 1960s. Stepping inside felt like stepping into a charming British bungalow, with furniture and decor that whisk you away to another era.
The warm welcome from the manager and staff enveloped me like a cozy blanket. Though the rooms aren’t grandiose, they offer an air of comfort and luxury that perfectly complements the vibrant surroundings.
As the sun set, I received an unexpected treat: an invitation to the Courtyard Bar’s lawn. This romantic space, beautifully adorned with twinkling lights and a backdrop of live music, is a haven for anyone seeking relaxation. With my favourite beverage in hand and delicious snacks on the table, the evening turned into an unforgettable memory under the starry Himalayan sky.
A Morning at Nursery Café
The morning after a night of gentle rain greeted us with a bright blue sky. The melodious chirping of birds and the freshness in the air were too tempting to resist. In no time, I found myself sipping aromatic green tea sitting at—the Nursery Café. Adorned with a charming garden theme, this delightful café offers a serene ambiance perfect for a leisurely meal. Whether craving fast food, searching for a cool drink, or wanting to host a private event, the café, open from 11 am to 7 pm, has something for everyone. This would be my favourite spot on the property.
Later in the day, the hotel manager graciously guided us through the property’s numerous amenities. From toddler rooms that create a family-friendly atmosphere to an activity room brimming with entertainment, and even a yoga center for those seeking tranquillity, Shervani Hilltop caters to every need. And if you’re one of those who find it hard to leave the stunning property( like me ) there’s no shortage of indoor games to keep you blissfully entertained.
Exploring the Wonders of Nainital
Yet, if you’re feeling adventurous, Nainital, with all of its charm, beckons. From serene boating experiences on the lake to a visit to the revered Naini Temple and delightful horse riding along the scenic terrain, countless activities are waiting to be discovered. Shopping at local stores and enjoying more cafés by the lakeside only adds to the allure of this lovely hill station.
As I prepared to depart for my next destination, the thoughts of returning to this splendid retreat were already taking shape in my mind. Shervani Hilltop isn’t just a stay; it’s an experience that resonates with the heart and soul of the mountains.
So, should the opportunity to wander into this slice of Himalayan paradise present itself, don’t hesitate. Embrace the mountains, revel in the rain, and let the magic of the Shervani Hilltop inspire your next journey.

A Serene Getaway: Te Aroha by Shervani, Mukteshwar
The journey to this serene retreat was nothing short of an enchanting adventure, punctuated by the whimsical twists and turns of a mountain road that felt like a game of cat and mouse against snaking clouds and raindrops.
As I arrived at Mukteshwar, I could feel the pace of life slow down, ushering in a sense of tranquillity. Each turn in the road revealed breathtaking views framed by thick forests, towering saal trees, and a distant horizon that seemed to whisper stories of rejuvenation and peace. Upon reaching the haven of Te Aroha, it became evident that this property is intricately woven into the landscape, designed to coexist with nature rather than dominate it.
A Blend with Nature
As I explored the property, I was immediately struck by the architecture, which harmoniously integrates with the surroundings. The cottages and suites are carefully positioned to echo the natural elevation of the mountains, making it feel as though they have sprung from the earth itself. The gradual descent through the property allowed me to appreciate the lush greenery and stunning vistas from different angles, each more mesmerizing than the last.
After navigating those delightful, yet exhausting steps, I arrived at my sanctuary— “The Study.” This cozy 280 sq. ft. retreat felt like a warm embrace after my adventurous journey. The room’s design offered a perfect confluence of luxury and rustic charm. A large bed beckoned, complemented by a wardrobe and a thoughtfully curated bookshelf filled with a selection of engaging reads. I found my spot by the window, eager to soak in the view of the mountains and valleys that spread out before me like a living painting.
A Day of Discovery
Te Aroha isn’t just a place to unwind; it offers a plethora of activities that encourage exploration and connection with the local environment. My first day included a delightful “Village Lunch,” an experience that was as flavourful as it was enlightening. Walking into a Kyari Village home, I enjoyed the warmth of their hospitality as we shared stories over a delicious meal prepared with ingredients sourced directly from the terraced farms below. Here, gastronomy was more than just food—it was a glimpse into the local culture, complete with stunning views of green-covered mountain ranges. Following lunch, we ventured to a nearby temple and embarked on a small trek that truly immersed us in the local landscape.
As the evening descended, the property arranged a bonfire under a star-studded sky, where music, delicious tikkas, and drinks turned the chilly atmosphere into one of warmth and camaraderie. Time felt suspended in that moment, as laughter and the crackling of the fire danced in the air, enhancing the magical ambiance of Kumaon.
A Morning of Surprises
However, the following morning brought with it unexpected surprises. Dark clouds rolled in, robbing me of my secret desire to witness a mountain sunrise from the comfort of my bed. The early morning symphony of monkeys across the roof of my “Study” room reluctantly pulled me from my slumber—proof that nature often has its own agenda!
While some decided to linger at the property, relishing the peace of the retreat, a few of us embarked on an excursion to Bhalu Gaad Waterfall. This 60-foot marvel, cascading from its undiscovered source, was a spectacle that left everyone in awe. Its unique horseshoe and plunge shapes combined with crystal-clear waters made it a must-visit attraction that one should never bypass when in the vicinity.
Lasting Memories of Te Aroh
As I recounted the day’s adventures and cherished the moments spent at Te Aroha, it became clear that this retreat symbolizes more than just a getaway; it embodies serenity, pristine nature, and the flawless luxury that rejuvenates the spirit. Each experience—the delightful quiet of my cozy cottage, the culinary adventures, and the explorations into the wilderness—left an indelible mark on my heart.
In the quiet embrace of the Kumaon Hills, Te Aroha by Shervani stands as a reminder that true luxury is about the intertwining of simplicity and the grandeur of nature. I left with beautiful memories, a renewed spirit, and the promise to return to this enchanting sanctuary.

Shervani Pebbles & Pines : A Romantic Gateway in the Land of Tigers
It was dark in the night as we traversed the winding paths of the Kumaon hills, the headlights of our vehicle cutting through the inky darkness like a knife. The landscape around us transformed into a murky sea of shadows, punctuated by the sentinel-like silhouettes of tall pine trees that loomed on either side of the bumpy road. As the GPS guided us to crawl along the narrow lane towards the Shervani Pebbles & Pines, Corbett the delays we had faced earlier—due to some unseen stoppages—seemed almost serendipitous.
When we finally arrived at the Hotel compound, it was nearly eleven o’clock. The night air was rich with the earthy scent of damp foliage and the distant rustle of wildlife. The welcoming committee was ready to greet us—Gaurav, the General Manager, greeted us with a wide smile infused with energy that belied the hour.
As I stepped into the resort, it felt like a transition—not merely from the outside world to the inside of a hotel, but from one state of being to another. My Superior Jacuzzi Garden View Room awaited me like a secret garden—a promise of tranquillity. At 600 square feet, the lavish space was an oasis of modernity, adorned with intricate carvings and subtle ethnic decor that nodded respectfully to the surroundings. A plush king-size bed beckoned me, its crisp white linens inviting me to indulge in long-awaited rest.
However, nothing tugged at my spirit quite like the alluring sight of the jacuzzi bathtub gleaming enticingly under soft ambient light. The steam spiralled upward, carrying with it the last remnants of the road.
Dinner was an enchanting affair, arranged elegantly by the poolside under a starlit sky. The gentle glow of lights danced on the water’s surface, creating a magical atmosphere that blended seamlessly with the sounds of the jungle. Light music filled the air, while the occasional chorus of crickets and frogs reminded me of the wild beauty surrounding us. We revealed in delightful conversations, savouring every bite of the exquisite culinary offerings. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the hotel team for their incredible effort in curating such memorable moments for their guests.
The next morning dawned with an exhilarating promise—the early morning safari. The thrill of the jungle coursed through us as we hopped into the gypsy for our adventure. The fresh scent of the forest enveloped us, heightening our senses as we ventured deeper into the wilderness. Within minutes of entering the core area, we were greeted by a wild tasker, and I marvelled at the sight of herds of spotted deer effortlessly gliding past us. As an avid wildlife traveller, even I never expected to witness a Royal Bengal Tiger in a single safari—let alone during the monsoon season, typically a quieter time for tiger sightings. Yet, there he was, a glittering golden figure moving with regal grace through the white kashful forests, a moment we shall cherish forever. A massive shoutout to the Shervani Corbett team for making this possible.
After such an exhilarating morning, we surrendered ourselves to the luxurious comforts of the lovely swimming pool in the afternoon, a delight we couldn’t resist despite the soft patter of rain. Rejuvenated and invigorated, we looked forward to our next experience. As evening fell, we gathered for high tea by the river, where the hotel’s staff had once again showcased their expertise in crafting a perfect setting.
But the evening held one more treasure. Before darkness enveloped us, we joined Vinod Budhani, the hotel’s naturalist and experienced guide, for a captivating nature walk. With every step, he shared invaluable insights about the flora and fauna of the area, interlaced with thrilling tiger tales that added a sense of wonder to the already enchanting environment.
As I prepared to bid farewell to Shervani Pebbles and Pines, I took a final look around—at the lush landscapes, the serene river, and the welcoming faces of the staff who had become part of my journey. Every moment spent here had been a testament to the beauty of nature and the warmth of hospitality. I left with tired bodies and rejuvenated souls, but most importantly, a heart full of memories.
