Lonavala has welcomed Mirari, a new culinary bungalow in Tungarli that brings together contemporary dining, regional influences and the destination’s long-standing association with leisure travel.
The new dining destination draws inspiration from Lonavala’s food culture and the legacy of Sunny Da Dhaba, a well-known stop on the Mumbai-Lonavala route. Mirari has been conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional bungalow experience, combining dining and hospitality in a relaxed setting.
The name Mirari, meaning “to wonder”, reflects the property’s connection with the hills and the experience of travelling to Lonavala. The concept features two distinct dining spaces, Leni and Avaali, each offering a different culinary experience.
Leni takes inspiration from Lonavala’s heritage and café culture. Named after the region’s ancient Buddhist cave sanctuaries, the café focuses on coffee, baked offerings and casual dining. Its menu includes dishes such as Burrata Margherita Flatbread, Corn Bhaji with Poached Egg and Pulled Lamb Leg Sandwich, alongside desserts including Lonavala’s Famous Walnut Fudge Crêpes and Sticky Toffee Ginger Pudding.
The beverage menu includes options such as the Morning After Cold Brew and Mogra Cooler, designed to complement the café’s food offering.
The second dining space, Avaali, takes its name from the hills and valleys surrounding Lonavala. It focuses on contemporary Indian cuisine, combining traditional flavours with modern techniques and presentation.
Its menu includes 100 Layer Sindhi Aloo Tukk, Kerala Prawn Pepper Fry Cigars, Truffle & Herb Kothambir Wadi, OG Butter Chicken and Mirari Falooda. The restaurant also features a cocktail programme with drinks including Aamlet, inspired by aam panna, and Fudge, a cocktail drawing inspiration from Lonavala’s popular fudge.
According to Sharad Wadhwani, Founder, Mirari, the project is intended to build on Lonavala’s existing culinary heritage while creating a contemporary dining experience.
“Lonavala has always been more than a getaway, it is where memories are made. With Mirari, we wanted to create a grand bungalow in the hills that honours the warmth and legacy of Sunny Da Dhaba while offering a fresh dining experience for today’s traveller,” said Wadhwani.
With Leni and Avaali operating under the same destination, Mirari caters to different dining occasions, from casual café visits and family lunches to evening meals and drinks.
The opening adds another contemporary dining option to Lonavala, a destination that continues to attract weekend travellers from Mumbai and Pune and is increasingly developing a broader food and hospitality offering.
