Marriott Bonvoy Expands with Integration of City Express by Marriott
Latin America, August 4, 2023: Marriott International has announced a significant expansion of its travel program, Marriott Bonvoy, through the seamless integration of City Express by Marriott properties. This integration brings an additional 150 hotels into the Marriott Bonvoy fold, situated across the vibrant landscapes of the Caribbean and Latin America. This move is set to provide the program’s members with a broader spectrum of choices and enhanced offerings for their travel experiences.
The incorporation of City Express into the Marriott Bonvoy ecosystem comes on the heels of Marriott International’s successful acquisition of the City Express brand portfolio in May. This strategic move not only allowed Marriott to penetrate the affordable midscale segment but also marked the inception of their 31st brand – City Express by Marriott. This transformative acquisition firmly solidified Marriott International’s position as the largest hotel company in the region, showcasing its commitment to continuous growth and innovation.
Marriott Bonvoy has cultivated a reputation for offering its loyal members diverse avenues to maximize their travel experiences and enjoy exclusive perks. This includes the ability to accumulate points through stays at hotels and resorts, including premium home rentals and all-inclusive resorts. Additionally, members can earn points through everyday transactions made using co-branded credit cards, enhancing the program’s appeal and benefits. The points earned can be redeemed for an array of enriching experiences, ranging from stays at various accommodations to engaging in Marriott Bonvoy Moments – a unique platform offering access to captivating experiences across the globe.
The assimilation of the City Express loyalty program, recognized as City Premios Rewards, into Marriott Bonvoy marks a pivotal moment for Latin American travellers. This seamless integration has led to a consolidation of these programs, streamlining benefits and creating a more unified experience for members. The transition has been met with enthusiasm, as many existing City Premios members have smoothly transferred their points and embraced their new identity as Marriott Bonvoy members. This transition has not only contributed to the growth of Marriott Bonvoy’s member base but has also fostered a stronger sense of community within the Caribbean and Latin American regions.
Diana Plazas-Trowbridge, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Caribbean and Latin America at Marriott International, expressed her excitement about the expanded offerings: “We’re thrilled to welcome City Premios members to Marriott Bonvoy, allowing access to nearly 8,600 properties and extraordinary experiences.” She emphasized how this transition has empowered the Marriott Bonvoy family in the region, presenting guests with more choices and novel avenues to earn and redeem rewards.
To facilitate a smooth transition, Marriott Bonvoy is extending a status match to City Premios members during this phase. Additionally, select benefits from the City Premios program, such as gift card redemptions for popular third-party vendors like Liverpool and Cinepolis, will continue to be available within the framework.
