MakeMyTrip and Ministry of Tourism Unveil Innovative ‘Traveller’s Map of India’
New Delhi, August 16, 2023: In a collaborative effort to commemorate India’s 76th Independence Day, MakeMyTrip has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism to introduce an ingenious ‘Traveller’s Map of India.’ This interactive microsite is a tribute to India’s diverse and lesser-known destinations, aligning with the visionary ‘DekhoApnaDesh’ program.
The ‘Traveller’s Map of India’ microsite, developed by MakeMyTrip, offers an engaging platform for travellers to unearth hidden tourism treasures within India’s borders. The initiative is a response to the Government of India’s call to explore the country’s lesser-known gems.
To curate the unique selection, MakeMyTrip delved into India’s travel search history, tapping into the preferences of millions of platform users. By considering destination searches as a collective vote for must-visit locales, the platform has chosen destinations that remain undiscovered or are only recognized within specific pockets of the nation. These selections are thoughtfully categorized under tags like adventure, wildlife, heritage, mountains, and beaches, enabling travellers to filter through their preferred genres.
G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and DoNER, commended MakeMyTrip’s endeavor, stating, “We welcome MakeMyTrip’s initiative to present India’s diverse destinations and to promote domestic tourism. We invite more such initiatives to realize our collective dream of showcasing our country to the world.”
Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder & Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, highlighted the microsite’s significance, noting, “The Traveller’s Map of India reflects the voice of almost every Indian traveller, making it aptly commemorative of August 15th. We have always championed the diversity of India’s tourism offerings and wanted to push the envelope of discovery further.”
Magow continued, “What better way to achieve this than to empower every Indian to be a spokesperson for the country’s cultural, historic, natural, and geographical marvels? We are grateful to the Ministry of Tourism for supporting our initiative. It reaffirms our faith in our mission to showcase India as the most sought-after tourism destination in the world.”
The ‘Traveller’s Map of India’ not only celebrates the nation’s rich heritage but also underscores the role of domestic tourism in driving socio-economic development. By uncovering hidden gems, this initiative contributes significantly to India’s multifaceted economic growth.
As India celebrates its freedom, the ‘Traveller’s Map of India’ serves as a fitting tribute to the country’s unity in diversity, inviting travellers to explore and appreciate the lesser-known facets of their homeland.
