Kerala Tourism To Launch App Catering to Solo Women Travellers

Kerala Tourism is taking a significant step to empower and support female solo travellers with the introduction of a dedicated mobile application. This innovative app, designed specifically for women exploring the state on their own or in groups, aims to enhance their travel experiences and cater to their unique needs. With the launch of this app, Kerala Tourism is positioning itself as a safe and welcoming destination for women travellers.

The State Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission), the nodal agency for implementing the ‘Women-Friendly Tourism’ project, has been tasked with developing the content for the app. The app will provide comprehensive and location-specific information along with accurate images of various destinations. This will enable women travellers to make informed decisions and plan their trips with ease.

The initiative is driven by the desire to create a conducive and empowering environment for women tourists visiting Kerala. With the increasing trend of women embarking on solo journeys or travelling in groups, the app is set to become an essential tool for women looking for safe and comfortable travel experiences in the state.

The project, which was initiated in October 2022 in collaboration with UN Women’s ‘Gender Inclusive Tourism’ concept, highlights Kerala’s commitment to promoting gender equality in the tourism sector. In addition to the app, the state tourism department is also planning to introduce a range of women-friendly tourism products and packages.

The government aims to actively involve 1.5 lakh women from Kerala in this project, with support from various organizations, including UN Women. The goal is to create 10,000 women-led ventures and generate 30,000 job opportunities in the tourism sector. This will not only empower women but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the state.

The mobile app will serve as a comprehensive resource for women travellers, featuring information on women-friendly resorts, hotels, women-owned enterprises, recognized tour operators, women tour guides, travel agencies, homestays, and women-led handicrafts and souvenirs. By providing a platform that caters specifically to women travellers, the app aims to make their journeys in Kerala more enjoyable, comfortable, and hassle-free.

With the launch of this app, Kerala Tourism is taking a pioneering step towards promoting women-friendly tourism and establishing itself as a preferred destination for solo women travellers. By addressing the unique needs and concerns of women travellers, Kerala is setting a benchmark for other tourist destinations to follow suit and create a safe and inclusive environment for women explorers.
