New Delhi, October 26, 2023: Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt. Ltd. comprising of POMA SAS France and SRM Engineering LLP, has commenced work on India’s longest ropeway system at a length over 5.5 km connecting the twin cities of Dehradun and Mussoorie. The INR 300 crore mono-cable ropeway project that will connect Dehradun-Mussoorie will be ready by September 2026.

The ropeway will cut down the 33 kms driving distance between Dehradun and Mussoorie, which can take from 1.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic, to a mere 15 minutes.

For the first time in India, this ropeway will have 10-seater cabins. These enclosed, fully ventilated, glazed, automatic opening and closing-door cabins will initially have the capacity to carry up to 1300 Passengers-Per-Hour-Per-Direction. The all-weather ropeway that will operate throughout the year, come rain or snow, will considerably reduce traffic congestion in the region, especially during peak festive seasons for locals and tourists. This is the first ropeway in India that is being built both for tourism purposes as well as for urban mobility between the two cities in Uttarakhand.

“We are very excited to launch this mega ropeway project in the state of Uttarakhand, FIL Industries’ second ropeway project in India, after our very successfully running Skyview by Empyrean project in Patnitop, Jammu. The Mussoorie-Dehradun sustainable ropeway project is being built with state-of-the-art, world-class infrastructure. Once ready, it will not only provide a source of employment and bring in revenue to the state; it will also attract tourists from across the world, contributing considerably to the state GDP,” said Owais Altaf Syed, Group Director, FIL Industries Limited.

FIL Industries Pvt. Ltd. has been at the forefront of creating unique sustainable tourism destinations. Skyview by Empyrean, their first project in Patnitop, Jammu is a stellar example of their commitment to promoting responsible tourism in India. The 22-acre Skyview by Empyrean Mountain Harbour seamlessly blends premium hospitality, adventure, nature, and luxury. FIL’s Skyview Gondola also known as a ‘Green Gondola’ revolutionized travel between Sanget Valley and Patnitop, cutting road travel time by over an hour and significantly reducing vehicular pollution. Taking a leaf from this success story, Mussoorie Skycar Company Private Limited is set to be a game-changer in Uttarakhand by creating a thriving ecosystem that preserves the mountains through its range of modern urban mobility solutions. The project also envisions integrated infrastructure development, including hospitality, Food & Beverages as well as retail facilities, which will boost the local economies of both Dehradun and Mussoorie.
