India’s First Grade Separated Urban Expressway
India is set to witness a remarkable milestone in transportation infrastructure with the construction of India’s first elevated 8-lane access control expressway. Spanning an impressive length of 29.6 km, this ambitious project is being built at a cost of Rs 9000 crore and is projected to be almost completed by April 2024, according to the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari.
The expressway, known as the Dwarka expressway, is a testament to modern engineering marvels. Stretching across the states of Haryana and Delhi, the 34-metre-wide thoroughfare is supported by a single pillar, extending 18.9 km in Haryana and 10.1 km in Delhi. Shri Gadkari, accompanied by esteemed dignitaries such as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, Union Minister of State Shri General V.K. Singh, Union Minister of State Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, MP Shri Pravesh Singh Verma, and MP Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, recently inspected the progress of this monumental project.
During the interaction with the media, Shri Gadkari highlighted the multi-level road network that this expressway will offer. The construction includes flyovers, tunnels, underpasses, graded roads, elevated roads, and flyovers. Additionally, a 3-lane service road will be constructed on both sides of the expressway, ensuring efficient traffic flow. Notably, the project includes the construction of the country’s widest 8-lane tunnel, measuring a length of 3.6 km, in Delhi. This remarkable feat will significantly enhance connectivity for residents of Haryana and West Delhi, providing easy access to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Shri Gadkari further revealed that the Dwarka expressway will intersect key locations in Haryana, including Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai. Furthermore, it will cross the Delhi-Rewari rail line near Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER-II at Bharthal. The expressway will connect various sectors of Gurgaon, such as Sector-21, with Sector-88, 83, 84, 99, 113, and Dwarka to Global City, facilitating seamless travel for commuters. To enhance the overall experience, the expressway will also feature an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) facility, making it a smart and technologically advanced transportation corridor.
As the completion of India’s first grade separated urban expressway draws nearer, anticipation grows among citizens and travellers alike. This monumental project is not just a testament to India’s infrastructure prowess but also a significant step towards a more connected and convenient future. With its innovative design and strategic connectivity, the Dwarka expressway is poised to revolutionize the way people travel, creating new avenues for economic growth and development.
