Indian Passport Holders Granted Visa-Free Entry to 62 Countries
New Delhi, January 16, 2024: Indian passport holders are now granted visa-free access to an expanded list of 62 countries. This recent development opens exciting avenues for globetrotters, allowing them to explore diverse cultures, picturesque landscapes, and historical wonders without the hassle of visa applications.
The extensive list encompasses popular tourist destinations across Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. Acknowledging the potential to attract Indian tourists, these countries have streamlined travellers’ access to iconic landmarks, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultural hotspots.
According to the latest data from the Henley Passport Index, a leading online tool for passport rankings worldwide, India’s passport now facilitates visa-free entry to 62 countries, maintaining its 80th rank globally. This significant increase from the previous count of 57 reflects a substantial expansion of inaccessible destinations for Indian passport holders.
Derived from data supplied by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Henley Passport Index serves as a barometer for the global mobility landscape, illustrating the diplomatic reach and accessibility of passports across nations.
Among the nations with the most powerful passports globally are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain, granting citizens the privilege of travelling to 194 countries without the need for a visa.
Conversely, Afghanistan holds the lowest position, offering visa-free entry to its citizens in only 28 countries. Syria and Iraq closely follow, providing access to only 29 and 31 visa-free destinations, respectively. The Pakistan passport has also experienced a dip this year, granting access to just 34 countries.
The extensive list of countries that Indian passport holders can now visit without a visa includes Angola, Barbados, Bhutan, Bolivia, British Virgin Islands, and many more. This expanded visa-free access enhances opportunities for Indian travellers to engage in cultural exchange and explore a multitude of global destinations.
The positive trend in visa-free access not only highlights the growing global appeal of Indian passport holders but also underscores the sustained efforts in diplomatic relations between India and these welcoming nations.
