In an era where digital transformation is reshaping every aspect of business, CoTrav is leading the charge in revolutionizing corporate travel management. At the helm of its tech vision is Vinod Kumar Sah, Co-Founder & CTO, whose passion lies in building smarter, scalable, and sustainable systems. In this conversation, Vinod shares how CoTrav is blending innovation, AI, and enterprise integration to redefine how businesses manage travel.
What inspired your vision for digital transformation at CoTrav?
The inspiration came from seeing how broken and manual corporate travel processes still were, even in large enterprises. I saw finance teams struggling with reconciliation, employees juggling calls and emails for bookings, and companies losing visibility and control over spend. It was clear that travel wasn’t just a logistics issue—it was a tech and workflow problem waiting to be solved.
That’s what led us to reimagine travel management not as a booking engine, but as a unified, policy-aware, API-driven platform. Our vision for digital transformation at CoTrav was to automate the ordinary, integrate deeply with HR and finance systems, and make the entire travel experience smarter, faster, and fully compliant.
How is AI shaping the future of corporate travel management?
Several emerging technologies are set to reshape corporate travel over the next few years. Among these emerging technologies, AI and machine learning will play a massive role in predictive travel planning—offering smart itineraries, dynamic pricing insights, and fraud detection. Second, real-time data integration through APIs and NDC (New Distribution Capability) will improve personalization and cost control by connecting directly with airlines, hotels, and mobility providers. Third, blockchain has the potential to revolutionize settlement, identity verification, and contract enforcement in B2B travel. And finally, sustainability tech—like carbon tracking APIs—will become critical as ESG compliance becomes a board-level concern. At CoTrav, we’re actively exploring how to embed these innovations into the user experience while ensuring enterprise-grade reliability and compliance.
How is CoTrav balancing innovation with sustainability goals?
At CoTrav, we define sustainability as building systems that are scalable, efficient, and long-term ready. Our innovation is focused on reducing operational waste—like manual processes, policy violations, and inefficient workflows—through automation, smart approvals, and deep integrations. By streamlining how companies manage travel, we help them create sustainable internal systems that are cost-effective, compliant, and future-proof.
How do you ensure data security across CoTrav’s digital ecosystem?
Security is a top priority at CoTrav, especially since we handle sensitive travel, financial, and employee data. We follow a multi-layered approach—starting with secure coding practices, role-based access controls, and strong data encryption at rest and in transit. Our infrastructure is hosted on trusted cloud platforms with regular audits, and we enforce strict API authentication protocols.
Beyond technology, we also focus on process—running periodic vulnerability assessments, maintaining audit logs, and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations like GDPR. We treat security not as a checkbox, but as a culture—built into every stage of our development and operations.
How do you approach integrating new technologies like SAP and HRMS?
When we integrate with systems like SAP or HRMS, we start by understanding how the client is using those tools—like how they manage employee data, approvals, and budgets. Based on that, we build secure API connections or use file-based integrations like SFTP if APIs aren’t available.
We map the data fields carefully to ensure everything flows correctly—like employee IDs, cost centers, or travel policies. We also make sure the integration works in real time where needed, or in scheduled syncs if that’s better for the system.
Our goal is to make CoTrav work smoothly with the client’s setup, without needing them to change how they already work.
What advice would you give to aspiring tech leaders in the travel sector?
My advice to aspiring tech leaders is simple: focus on solving real problems, not just writing clean code. The travel sector is full of complexity—legacy systems, fragmented data, dynamic pricing, and high user expectations. To make an impact, you need to understand both the tech and the business. Learn how APIs work across the ecosystem, get comfortable with scalability and security, and most importantly—build with empathy for the traveler and the operations teams behind the scenes. If you can combine technical depth with product thinking, you’ll stand out.
