The cover of the book Medusa and Other Poems features an abstract indigo colour painting by Sangeeta Gupta. This painting resembles an eye-like vortex, evoking themes of myth and inner awakening that are reflected throughout the collection. Sangeeta Gupta, a poet, writer, artist, and filmmaker, has crafted yet another volume that seamlessly bridges myth, the cosmos, and personal insight.
Sangeeta Gupta said, “Art and poetry are my offerings to the cosmos—a way to transform pain into purpose, silence into song, and memory into meaning.”
Review of the Book
Medusa and Other Poems by Sangeeta Gupta is described by Hyderabad-based poet Jhilam Chattaraj as “a poet’s meditation on the ceaseless emotional challenges of life.” Rooted in the mythological tale of Medusa, the collection traverses themes of sorrow, love, loss, and resilience. Through a language that is spare yet powerful, Gupta crafts inner monologues that embrace clarity and a vision rooted in intuition, self-compassion, and generosity of spirit. The poems suggest that even in abandonment or grief, one must learn to trust the universe’s greater plan and, as the book gently urges, “stay in the energy of abundance.” The review highlights the poet’s unique ability to transform myth into a healing narrative that resonates with contemporary readers.
Note from the Author
Sangeeta Gupta – Medusa and Other Poems is my latest collection of poetry, marking another milestone in my journey with English verse that began with my first published collection in 2013. This book delves into the mythical narrative of Medusa, not as a villain, but as a symbol of injustice, resilience, and transformation. Alongside, many of the poems reflect a deep spiritual yearning—an exploration of the soul’s dialogue with itself and the cosmos. Through these verses, I have sought to intertwine mythology, emotion, and inner reflection into a tapestry of words that both questions and heals.
