    Goa Pushes for Regenerative Tourism and Enhanced Global Connectivity

    Goa, August 12, 2024: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte recently met with the Union Minister for Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Ji along with Secretary Tourism, Sanjeev Ahuja, IAS & Director-Tourism, Suneel Anchipaka, IAS to discuss a range of topics aimed at enhancing tourism outcomes in the state, including Goa’ plan as the first state in India to adopt Regenerative Tourism.

    A key focus of their discussion was the enhancement of international connectivity to Goa, which is seen as essential for attracting more global tourists. The Goa Tourism Minister stressed the importance of increasing direct international flights and improving connections to major global cities, which would help solidify Goa’s reputation as a premier tourist destination.

    Another significant point of discussion was the request to expedite the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme for the Basilica of Bom Jesus, one of Goa’s most revered and iconic heritage sites. The Goa Tourism Minister emphasized the need to align the PRASHAD project with the upcoming major exposition inGoa, which is expected to draw significant international attention. The timely completion of this initiative would not only enhance the spiritual and cultural experience for visitors but also boost the overall tourism appeal of the state.

    Additionally, the Goa Tourism Minister sought continued and robust support from the central government to further develop the state’s tourism infrastructure and promotional efforts.

    Both ministers acknowledged the importance of collaborative efforts to elevate Goa’s status as a world-class tourist destination. The Union Tourism Minister assured Goa of the Centre’s full support, thereby maximizing the benefits of the upcoming tourism initiatives.
