Gallery Art and Soul Announces “One Note of Zen” — A Unique Immersive Art and Performance Experience by Satish Gupta
Mumbai, September 17, 2024: Gallery Art and Soul announces “One Note of Zen,” an innovative and immersive art and performance experience by the celebrated Indian artist and sculptor, Satish Gupta. The exhibition will debut on September 27th at Snowball Studios, Mumbai, featuring a live painting session by Satish Gupta, complemented by “The Monk & the Moon,” an interactive dialogue and captivating performance by renowned theatre actor and director, Yuki Ellias, whose work seamlessly blends spirituality with artistic expression. This exhibition will be on view until September 29th, offering audiences an opportunity to immerse themselves in a serene world where art and sound converge to evoke a deeper sense of introspection and mindfulness.
A standout element of “One Note of Zen” is the creative collaboration between Satish Gupta and Sarita Handa, an esteemed textile artist, collector, and friend. This partnership brings together Handa’s expertise in textile art with Gupta’s Zen-inspired canvases, fostering an artistic dialogue that transcends traditional boundaries. The exhibition offers a transformative journey into Zen philosophy, featuring a diverse array of calligraphic canvases, live painting sessions, and a theatrical performance, creating a serene and contemplative space for visitors.
The live event on September 27th promises an extraordinary and dynamic experience, seamlessly blending visual art with live performance. “Both Yuki and I believe that when you open your inner selves without hesitation, you merge with the divine,” explains Satish Gupta, emphasizing the spiritual synergy of this collaboration. Enhanced by specially composed music and intricate lighting, the performance promises a multi-sensory engagement, where art, music, and theatre converge to offer a moment of Zen.
Exploring the Art and Philosophy
“One Note of Zen” draws inspiration from the story of Kakua, a 12th-century Zen monk who conveyed his understanding of Zen with a single note from his flute, capturing the essence of Zen as an experience beyond words. Gupta’s artworks in this exhibition embody this philosophy, using calligraphic strokes to express the raw, unfiltered energy of a lifelong meditation practice. The “Zenga” series, featured in the exhibition, explores the five elements—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space—capturing the fluidity and spontaneity of life.
Satish Gupta hopes that visitors to “One Note of Zen” will leave with a sense of peace and tranquillity, reflecting on the frenetic pace of modern life and embracing moments of stillness and introspection. “Repose,” he notes, “is never static. It’s like a flowing river, still on the surface but moving fast deep within.”
This exhibition is not just an art show but a meditative experience that invites the audience to engage with Zen philosophy on a deeper level.
