Panaji, April , 2025 : FLY91 announced a significant ramp-up of operations, boosting weekly flights from 100+ to 150 over the peak summer travel season. The airline, based at Goa’s Manohar International Airport (MIA), has also created aviation history by being the first Indian regional carrier to acquire two ATR 72-600 aircraft under a single order.
Fleet Expansion and Operational Milestones
The ATR twin purchase represents a strategic turning point for FLY91, which earlier was operating with leased planes from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. FLY91’s third aircraft has already become a part of its fleet, with the fourth on the anvil. The move solidifies FLY91’s intent to build on the connectivity between tier-2 and tier-3 cities, by capitalizing on the ATR 72-600’s fuel economy and short-runway versatility.
Since its operations began in March 2024, FLY91 has flown more than 3,500 flights, transporting 1.7 lakh passengers on important regional routes. The airline now connects places such as Sindhudurg, Jalgaon, and Agatti to major points like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Goa under the UDAN 5.0 initiative.
Boosting Passenger Experience
In an attempt to stand out in the crowded regional air space market, FLY91 has launched pre-bookable hot meals and drinks onboard—a first among ATR operators worldwide. The initiative is meant to enhance passenger comfort while being cost-effective.
Vision for the Future
FLY91 MD & CEO Manoj Chacko said, “The addition of our third ATR and the twin acquisition represent our focus on sustainable, reliable growth. Our aim is to establish a well-optimized network that actually bridges Bharat’s underserved hinterlands and cities.
In the future, FLY91 aims to link 50+ cities and grow its fleet size to 30 ATR aircraft over five years with the development of several regional hubs in India. This aggressive game plan complements the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (UDAN), which aims to bring air connectivity to tier-II and tier-III cities.
Industry Impact
FLY91’s expansion is a harbinger of the resurgence of India’s regional air transport industry, which has witnessed many carriers face challenges in terms of profitability. Through its emphasis on fuel-efficient planes, tactical route planning, and customer-oriented services, the airline seeks to create a new standard for sustainable regional air travel.
As summer travel demand spikes, FLY91’s expansion comes at the right time, providing travelers with greater choices and strengthening India’s shifting aviation environment.
