Emerging Artist Khushi Khandelwal Debuts with Powerful Solo Exhibition “What’s Under My Skin?”

The All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society (AIFACS) Gallery in Delhi buzzed with energy as 20-year-old Khushi Khandelwal unveiled her debut solo exhibition, What’s Under My Skin?. New Delhi: Standing quietly amid her thought-provoking canvases, young Khushi exuded a mix of calm confidence and humble shyness. When asked about her unconventional choice of subject, she explained, “I have always been fascinated by human anatomy, and I use depictions of different parts of the body to convey the emotions and stories within us. While this approach may add a grotesque element to my work, it is the way I choose to express my feelings.”

Far from a traditional portraiture show, What’s Under My Skin? offers visitors a raw and honest window into the artist’s internal world. Khushi’s works disassemble and reinterpret the human body as a vehicle for exploring themes like anxiety, vulnerability, and psychological exposure. Exhibiting a unique blend of realism and abstraction, the paintings invite viewers to reflect on the emotional layers resting beneath the surface of everyday life.

Since its grand opening, the gallery has seen a diverse influx of art enthusiasts, students, fellow artists, critics, and collectors, many of whom linger thoughtfully before the works, drawn in by intricate textures and symbolic gestures embodied on the canvas. For those wishing to take a piece of this intimate narrative home, both original artworks and curated prints are available for purchase.

Visibly moved by the response, Khushi shared, “I’m just so blown away by the crowd and all these genuine reactions. Seeing so many people connect with what I made, and even hearing those people share their own stories with me, has been so touching. I never imagined experiencing so much kindness and engagement, and that is something I’ll cherish forever.”

What’s Under My Skin?, at its core, is more than just a showcase of visual skill—it is a heartfelt dialogue, encouraging the community to confront and embrace the complexities beneath our own facades. With her unflinching honesty and emotional sensitivity, Khushi Khandelwal’s debut heralds the arrival of an exciting new voice in India’s art scene.

For those wishing to experience Khushi’s powerful work, the exhibition remains open through July 24 at AIFACS Gallery A, New Delhi.
