Bengaluru’s food landscape is witnessing a shift with the introduction of Bhookle, a food delivery app that connects customers with home chefs offering authentic, homemade meals. The platform aims to provide an alternative to traditional restaurant food by focusing on dishes prepared with care and cultural significance.

Founded by Arvind Ravichandran, Bhookle was inspired by his desire to recreate the comfort of his mother’s cooking. The app seeks to bridge the gap between home chefs and those seeking meals that evoke nostalgia and authenticity.

The platform currently features over 130 home chefs across Bengaluru, with plans to onboard an additional 500 by early 2025. Areas such as HSR Layout, Indiranagar, Whitefield, and Jayanagar are already served, with more locations expected to be added soon. Bhookle offers a diverse menu, ranging from traditional Karnataka dishes like Ragi Mudde and Bisibelebath to regional specialties from Kerala, Sindhi, Maharashtrian, and North Indian cuisines.

A key aspect of Bhookle’s model is its emphasis on quality and safety. Each home chef is vetted for FSSAI compliance and kitchen hygiene, ensuring that meals are fresh and preservative-free. The platform also allows customers to choose between pure vegetarian and non-vegetarian kitchens, catering to diverse dietary preferences.

In addition to its culinary offerings, Bhookle supports home chefs, 85% of whom are women aged 25-65. Many of these chefs are homemakers who have turned their passion for cooking into a source of income. The platform also addresses social concerns by offering meal plans for the elderly and minimizing food waste through a cook-on-order system.

Bhookle has introduced a 1-hour delivery option and a pre-order service, providing flexibility for customers. A subscription service is also in development, aiming to cater to those seeking regular home-cooked meals.

The app has garnered positive feedback from early users in Bengaluru, with 72% of customers being repeat users. Many have expressed appreciation for the platform’s ability to deliver meals that remind them of home. Home chefs, on the other hand, value the opportunity to share their culinary heritage and connect with customers on a personal level.

Bhookle’s efforts have been recognized at the Food Connoisseurs India Awards 2024, where it was named Best Food Delivery App of the Year. The platform’s focus on community-driven, homemade meals set it apart from traditional food delivery services.

As Bhookle expands its network and offerings, it aims to create a vibrant community of home chefs while providing customers with a diverse range of authentic, home-cooked meals.
