Bangalore, April 2024: August Jakarta is bringing its exquisite modern flavours with an Indonesian influence to The Leela Bhartiya City Bangalore. August’s much acclaimed and innovative menu, featuring Indonesian dishes masterfully reinvented by Chef Hans Christian’s deft fusion of French techniques, will take centre stage as this exclusive poolside experience. The poolside and exclusive pop-up experience will take place on Friday, April 12th at The Lotus Oriental, the premium Asian restaurant at The Leela Bhartiya City.

Helmed by the visionary duo of Chef Hans Christian, a culinary virtuoso adorned with the prestigious Oscars of the Food World accolade, and Budi Cahyadi, a seasoned hotelier and F&B maestro, the August Jakarta epicurean affair is set to transport diners on an exquisite journey through the vibrant flavours of modern Indonesian cuisine. Chef Hans Christian and his team from August Jakarta will bring their innovative take on Indonesian cuisine, fusing modern techniques with the soul of Indonesia, for this exclusive pop-up experience.

Expressing their excitement on August’s first pop-up in India, the Christian and Cahyadi duo said, “Jakarta has been my culinary home, the place where I truly discovered my passion for cooking and learned to blend the vibrant flavours of Indonesia with modern techniques. With August, Budi and I want to showcase the incredible potential of Indonesian cuisine on the global stage. The exclusive August experience at The Leela Bhartiya City is more than just a restaurant experience – it’s an invitation to embark on a journey, to taste the soul of our nation’s rich culinary heritage reimagined with finesse and creativity.”

“From the comforting aromas of my childhood in Bandung to the cutting-edge skills I honed in culinary capitals like Chicago, every bite is a celebration of our collective culinary journey. And this is just the beginning. We want August to be an inspiration, a place where chefs and foodies alike can come to learn, explore, and push the boundaries of what Indonesian cuisine can be,” they added.

Starting with a refreshing Sparkling Tea featuring Oolong, Guava, and Lemongrass followed by a curated selection of snacks like the ‘Asinan’ Tart and the ‘Eggplant Steak’ will tantalize the taste buds with contrasting textures and bold flavours.  The journey continues with a Tomato Kalamansi dish, featuring either Black Tea Jelly (vegetarian) or Ikura and Smoked Fish, followed by a comforting and soul-filling Cauliflower ‘Opor’ Sauce (vegetarian) or Scallop ‘Opor’ Sauce (non-vegetarian), both showcasing the richness of Indonesian spices.  To complete this culinary adventure, a traditional ‘Klepon’ dessert promises a sweet and satisfying ending.

Sharing the inspiration behind the August Jakarta pop-up, Virender Razdan, General Manager, The Leela Bhartiya City said, “At The Leela Bhartiya City, we believe that food is a powerful language that transcends borders, uniting diverse cultures through the universal language of taste. The August Jakarta pop-up perfectly exemplifies this philosophy, offering a chance to explore the vibrant flavours and rich traditions of Indonesia right here in Bangalore. That’s why we are so excited to host the world-famous August Jakarta where Chef Hans Christian will share his innovative and world-class Indonesian cuisine with the Indian audience. With their daring flavours and modern techniques, August Jakarta is putting Indonesian cuisine on the global map in an inspiring way.”
