Co-founded by Indian entrepreneur Salil Panigrahi, Atmosphere Core takes another significant step in its global growth journey with the opening of BORGO MONCHIERO HERITAGE by Atmosphere in Italy, extending a hospitality portfolio already established in the Maldives and expanding across India. Located in the UNESCO-listed Langhe region of Piedmont, the restored 18th-century monastery opens on July 16, 2026, as a refined heritage retreat shaped by history, design, gastronomy, wellness, and the cultural spirit of the region.

With this opening, Atmosphere Core enters the European market through a property that brings the Heritage by Atmosphere philosophy to one of Italy’s most celebrated cultural landscapes.

Born from the shared vision of owners Franco Giampetruzzi and Gian Maria Debenedetti and guided by the philosophy “Where Every Stone Holds a Story”, Borgo Monchiero is the second historic property in the “HERITAGE BY ATMOSPHERE” collection by Atmosphere Core, an international hospitality company with an established presence in the Maldives, a growing portfolio in India, and an expanding global footprint.

“The Borgo Monchiero project perfectly combines the ‘Joy of Giving’ hospitality philosophy, shared by all Atmosphere Core properties, with the promise of the Heritage by Atmosphere sub-brand to breathe new life into extraordinary places, respecting their identity while transforming them into authentic and refined hospitality experiences,” says Salil Panigrahi, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Atmosphere Core. “As we strengthen our presence across the Maldives and India and expand into new international markets, this opening marks a significant milestone for Atmosphere Core.”

The restoration, led by architect Stefano Tardito, preserves the monastery’s stone walls, original volumes, and village character while introducing a contemporary hospitality language. The project earned the Rēgula Award 2025 in the Hospitality Structures category for its sensitive reinterpretation of heritage through an international perspective.Borgo Monchiero’s cultural significance lies in its transformation from a monastic settlement into a living heritage destination. Rather than imposing a new identity, the project allows the site’s architectural memory, local craftsmanship, land, and community spirit to shape the guest experience and add a new chapter to the Langhe’s cultural narrative

Rooms in the Monastery and the Villa

The property features 25 rooms and suites across the historic Monastery and the Villa, offering two complementary expressions of refined hospitality. Former monastic cells have been transformed into elegant rooms that preserve original materials and historical details, while the Villa offers a more residential expression of quiet luxury. The Prior’s Room provides a spacious apartment-style option for families or small groups.

A gastronomic offering rooted in the territory

The gastronomic experience is led by Executive Chef Giorgio Servetto, formerly chef at Ristoranti Nove (Michelin Star 2021–2022) and Vignamare (Michelin Green Star 2023; Michelin Star 2024–2025). His cuisine combines contemporary creativity with Piedmontese tradition, seasonality, local produce, regional recipes, and the Langhe’s renowned wine culture. In the ancient monastery setting, dining becomes part of the heritage experience, with the restaurant complemented by private dinners and tastings in the village’s most evocative spaces.

    Wellbeing for body and mind

Wellness is designed around quiet regeneration, with a panoramic pool overlooking the hills, a heated water cistern with vaulted ceiling, sauna, relaxation area, and emotional shower.

    Art, culture, and local discovery

The retreat also serves as a gateway to the Langhe, inviting guests to discover its vineyards, hilltop villages, culinary traditions, art, and slow rhythms of travel. Guests can explore the deconsecrated chapel museum, the residence and atelier of Eso Peluzzi by appointment, and curated experiences across the region, from wine tours and tastings to nature walks, art itineraries, vintage car or Vespa tours, and truffle hunting.
