March 4, 2025 : Indian women are increasingly stepping beyond borders, with international travel witnessing a significant 22% rise over the past year, Atlys data reveals. According to the visa processing platform, this surge reflects a growing trend of women traveling for self-discovery, milestone celebrations, and cultural exploration.

Solo travel has seen notable growth, accounting for 20.6% of applications. Women are choosing destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and parts of Europe, prioritizing safety, affordability, and immersive cultural experiences. Group travel makes up 35% of applications, with trips planned around occasions such as bachelorettes, birthdays, and career achievements. Popular destinations for such celebrations include Dubai, Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, and Malaysia, known for their vibrant atmosphere and convenient accessibility.

Another emerging trend is experiential travel, comprising 28% of applications. Atlys data reveals that Indian women are participating in international concerts, wellness retreats, and culinary experiences, shifting away from conventional sightseeing towards more meaningful engagements.

Economic independence plays a crucial role in this evolving travel pattern. Younger women under 35 are more inclined towards spontaneous and adventurous itineraries, while those between 35 and 45 tend to plan structured trips around work and family commitments. Regardless of age, there is a clear preference for travel that enriches both personal and professional lives.

The increase in women’s international travel points to a broader cultural shift—where travel is not just about leisure but a means of empowerment and growth. By venturing beyond their comfort zones, Indian women are expanding their worldviews, forging new connections, and redefining their roles in a globalized society.
