The cold wind of the tall pines was literally soothing my soul. Imagine gigantic trees stretching towards the heavens, sunbeams gently filtering through their leaves like golden threads, and the faint fragrance of resin hanging in the air. We were sitting in the middle of a pine forest—”chir ka ped”, as locals call them—fully surrounded by nature’s green canvas.
It took a good 30 minutes of trekking to reach this secluded spot. For my city-bred lungs, unaccustomed to high-altitude climbs, the initial metres of ascent felt challenging. But the rhythm came back—perhaps my old trekking instincts returning—helped by the sheer beauty of passing through tiny villages with only five or six houses, where cows and goats grazed lazily and women smiled as they went about their chores.
As Rishi, one of my companions, opened the food box and handed me a sandwich, I realised—being in this forest felt like meditation. No rush, no noise, just the whispers of leaves and the occasional call of a bird.

Beyond Walls: Experiencing the Spirit of the Land
“This is just one of many experiences Araiya Palampur offers its guests,” Arun Kumar, the Executive Assistant Manager of the property, told me when I first arrived. “We aim to make guests feel the spirit of the land and nature—not just keep them within the luxury of four walls.”
I nodded politely back then, not fully aware of how thoroughly Araiya would deliver on this promise. But after experiencing it firsthand, I can say—they walk the talk.
From the tangy chutneys made of sun-kissed rhododendrons to the mouthwatering fresh river trout served right at your table, every meal here carries the essence of Palampur. Even the cocktails are crafted from local ingredients and cleverly named after nearby places and fruits.
The Dream Terrace

One of my favourite spots was the open terrace. From here, the snow-clad Dhauladhar ranges seem almost close enough to touch. At sunrise, they glowed in shades of peach and ivory; at sunset, they turned dramatic, cloaked in violet shadows.
A temperature-controlled pool sat invitingly nearby—it was far too tempting for me to resist—and breakfasts under the blue Himalayan sky felt like meals in heaven. Birds’ songs formed the perfect orchestra, and the air carried a crisp freshness that city dwellers can only dream of.
No wonder, as Arun shared, Araiya Palampur has one of the highest numbers of repeat guests. People don’t just stay here—they keep coming back for more.
Suites with a View
The rooms are just as enchanting. I stayed in a Deluxe Suite spread over 590 sq. ft., with a separate living area and bedroom—perfect for families or anyone seeking extra space. The glass panes in every corner bring the mighty white mountain ranges right into your room; it’s as if you’re waking up inside a postcard.
Modern design blends seamlessly with nature’s beauty here. You feel elevated comfort while remaining part of the outdoors, a harmony that’s rare in most luxury accommodations.
When Night Falls
The valley wears a different mood at night. By day, she is a proud queen of the Himalayas; by night, she becomes a mysterious temptress. The resort transforms too—soft lights casting a glow reminiscent of a Sherlock Holmes novel.
The Old Fox Bar, with its elegant interiors and world-class furnishings, is the perfect place to unwind. Whether you want soothing quiet or lively conversation over drinks, this bar exceeds expectations. I found myself torn between the comfort of my bed and the charm of the night—each moment felt extraordinary.
Into the Wild
After a gentle spell of rain overnight, the morning felt muted. The mighty Himalayas seemed to be taking a lazy nap under a light mist. Sitting beside Chamanji, behind the wheel, with Dheeraj and Rishi as fellow explorers, I watched our Toyota navigate the picturesque mountain curves.
Our destination? Another hidden hike, classified as “medium tough” by Raghav, our guide. The day was an adventure—passing through dark tunnels, spotting Himalayan griffon vultures circling high above, and finally enjoying a picnic at a spot boasting an outstanding 360-degree view.
Here, nature was unspoiled, untouched, and utterly breathtaking. As Raghav explained, even if hiking isn’t your choice, there are easier routes for children and older guests—Araiya ensures everyone has a chance to taste adventure without compromise.
Tulip Festival Magic
I was lucky to be in Palampur during the Tulip Festival. Fields of exotic flowers in every colour imaginable bloomed against the backdrop of snow and green mountains—a scene so beautiful, it almost felt unreal.
After such a colourful day, I slipped into the warm pool at sunset. The water embraced me as the Dhauladhar peaks slowly disappeared behind twilight shadows.
Back at the resort, there’s so much to explore: a fully equipped gym, a serene spa, dedicated yoga spots, a cheerful kids’ corner, and walking trails that make every step a gentle reminder to relax, breathe and take it slow. Every corner whispers, “Feel the heartbeat of nature… in complete luxury.”
