A Unique Arrival Through Diu
My journey to Araiya Gir began with a surprise at Diu Airport. Tiny and charming, the airport felt more like a small coastal outpost than a conventional transit hub. Instead of waiting at a baggage carousel, I was asked to collect my bag directly from the tarmac—an experience that was both amusing and memorable.
The airport’s compact size allowed glimpses of Diu’s turquoise coastline almost instantly, creating a striking first impression. Waiting outside was Esmal, my chauffeur, who quickly became much more than just a driver. During the two-hour drive to Gir, he introduced me to the culture, communities, rivers, and wildlife of southern Gujarat.
Our route passed through peaceful villages, winding riverbanks, and local settlements, with stories about the Hiran River, crocodiles, regional food habits, and the history of the Siddi community enriching the journey. Naturally, much of our conversation revolved around Gir’s most iconic residents—the Asiatic lions.
A short stop for hot roadside chai made the drive even more enjoyable, and by the time we reached Araiya Gir, the sense of anticipation had fully taken over.
First Impressions of Araiya Gir

Set close to Sasan Gir National Park, Araiya Gir immediately stood out as a luxury resort designed to blend comfort with the natural surroundings. I was taken by buggy to Villa 108, tucked away among green pathways and landscaped lawns.
The villa felt spacious, elegant, and private. A king-size bed, plush seating, and tasteful interiors created a soothing atmosphere, but the highlight was undoubtedly the private pool in the backyard. It instantly elevated the experience from a simple wildlife stay to a true luxury retreat.
As evening arrived, I enjoyed dinner on the balcony while the sunset cast the property in shades of orange and gold. Herons lingered near the man-made pool, waiting for koi fish to rise, and the atmosphere felt calm, immersive, and deeply connected to nature.
Araiya Gir is not just a place to sleep after a safari. It is a destination in itself—one that offers luxury accommodation near Gir National Park without losing sight of the wild beauty that defines the region.
A Nature Walk Into Gir’s Living Landscape

The next morning began before sunrise with a guided nature walk led by Hitesh, the resort’s resident naturalist. His calm presence and deep knowledge shaped what became one of the most rewarding parts of the trip.
As we walked through Gir’s forest trails, the landscape came alive with birdsong. Bulbuls, paradise flycatchers, bee-eaters, babblers, and parakeets filled the trees and sky with movement and colour. Every few steps brought a new sighting, and the forest seemed to reveal itself slowly, layer by layer.
At the banks of the Ishwar River, the morning took on an almost cinematic quality. Crocodiles slid into the water at the sound of our approach, while purple herons and swamp hens continued undisturbed nearby. In a dramatic moment, a kite swooped down and caught a fish in one swift movement.
What made the walk especially memorable was Hitesh’s ability to connect wildlife observation with local insight and ecological detail. He transformed a simple walk into a richer understanding of Gir’s biodiversity.
Back at the resort, breakfast felt especially satisfying. Though the buffet offered a wide range of options, the stuffed parathas were easily the standout.
Hospitality That Feels Personal

Araiya Gir is led by General Manager Devansh Singh, whose approach to hospitality is both attentive and forward-thinking. Speaking about the resort’s philosophy, he said, “It is important that every member of my team feels happy and heard. We aim to customise hospitality solutions for our guests even before they ask for it.”
That vision is visible across the property. The service feels warm, intuitive, and thoughtful rather than excessive. The team understands that luxury today is as much about comfort and responsiveness as it is about design and amenities.
The Gir Safari Experience
For any wildlife traveller, the main draw of this region is the chance to see the Asiatic lion in Gir National Park, and the safari did not disappoint.
As our gypsy moved along the dusty forest tracks, we came face to face with a magnificent male lion walking directly towards us. His mane caught the light beautifully, and his calm, powerful movement made the encounter unforgettable. According to Hitesh, the locals knew him as “Bhupat,” a detail that made the moment feel even more personal and grounded in place.
The surrounding dry deciduous forest added to the experience, with sightings of spotted deer, sambar, wild boar, and several bird species. Throughout the drive, Hitesh and the local guide explained the differences between Asiatic and African lions, along with the remarkable ecological and cultural conditions that have allowed Gir’s lions to survive so successfully.
For anyone searching online for a Gir safari luxury stay, Araiya Gir offers the ideal pairing—wildlife adventure by day and refined comfort by night.

Luxury Resort Near Gir National Park
Over the last few years, Gir National Park has become one of India’s most important wildlife tourism destinations. With visitor numbers crossing 4 to 5 lakh annually, interest in the region continues to grow among both domestic and international travellers. Around 5–7% of visitors are inbound tourists, showing that Gir is steadily building a global profile.
Araiya Gir positions itself perfectly within this evolving travel landscape. During my stay, I could clearly see why it appeals to travellers seeking a luxury resort in Gujarat near Gir National Park.
Cycling through the property was one of the most peaceful experiences of the trip. The man-made lake reflected the sky beautifully, while distant peacock calls reinforced the feeling of being immersed in nature. My villa offered privacy, elegance, and a strong visual connection to the surrounding landscape. The private pool, in particular, became my favourite place to unwind after the heat and excitement of safari drives.
Sundowners and Stargazing at Araiya Gir
Evenings at Araiya Gir were every bit as memorable as the wildlife excursions. One of the highlights was the terrace sundowner experience, where I watched the golden light slowly disappear across the buffer zone of Gir forest.
Later, under a sky untouched by urban light pollution, stargazing became another unforgettable part of the stay. The stars appeared sharp and vivid, and the Milky Way seemed close enough to touch. These quieter moments gave the property an added sense of depth—it was not only about adventure, but also restoration and stillness.
Why Araiya Gir Is Worth Experiencing
Araiya Gir succeeds because it brings together two worlds that are rarely balanced this well: wilderness and luxury.
