I arrived at this stunning property in Vishakhapatnam, a little past midnight. The city was adorned with colourful lights and decorations due to a global political event taking place. The breathtaking view of the black sea waves gently crashing against the sandy beach, turning into milky-white bubbles illuminated by the midnight moon, left me in awe. I couldn’t resist sitting by the glass window, taking in the enchanting moment with all the lights turned off.
Not many luxury hotels can offer a morning that starts with a view of the surreal blue sky adorned with scattered white clouds and the majestic Bay of Bengal below, shining brightly in all its colourful morning glory.
By 9 am, I was ready to meet Ms. Tilottama Ganguly, the Cluster Assistant Manager – Marketing and Communications, at The Square for breakfast. After enjoying a delightful continental breakfast, Tilottama graciously gave me a tour of the magnificent property.

A Celestial Holiday – Astroport Sariska
As the smooth and placid drive through the Delhi -Mumbai Expressway took us near to our destination the green and hilly landscape of Aravalli soothed the eyes and refreshed the mind instantly. A sharp turn from the main road and a few meters inside the narrow lane as the sign board suggested, and there we were, standing in front of the enormous gate, nestled among the Aravalli Hills, stood the magnificent property known as Astroport Sariska. Excited with anticipation we stepped in with the warm welcome. This experiential resort was unlike any other, as it seamlessly blended astronomical experiences with organic farming and luxurious hospitality. With its location offering one of the darkest skies in India, it became the ultimate destination for star gazing and Astro tourism.
The live Rajasthani music right at the entrance set the mood in tune with this reposeful atmosphere immediately. The property was spread across acres of lush greenery, with beautiful gardens and picturesque pathways leading to cozy cottages. The entire place exuded a tranquil ambiance, making it the perfect escape from the chaotic city life.
As we settled into our cottage aesthetically crafted with the theme of nature and astronomy, the first thing that captivated us was the serenity of the place. The serene silence except for the sounds of nature and the comfort of the luxurious room with the cosy beds would instantly touch the souls.
In the evening, we joined a small group of fellow travellers for an introductory session with an experienced astronomer.
As night fell, we made our way to the specially designed observatory, which boasted state-of-the-art telescopes and equipment. Our astronomer guided us through a mesmerizing journey across the night sky, pointing out constellations, planets, and even distant galaxies. It was a surreal experience to witness the wonders of the universe unfold before my eyes.
After the stargazing session, I returned to my cottage, still intoxicated by the celestial show I had witnessed. The cozy room provided the perfect ambiance to reflect upon the universe’s mysteries.
The couple of days spent in this beautiful resort have been full of interesting experiences and memories to treasure forever. Astroport was not just limited to astronomical attractions. Its proximity to the Sariska Tiger Reserve made it an ideal choice for nature and wildlife lovers as well. Guests had the opportunity to embark on thrilling jungle safaris, exploring the exotic flora and fauna that called this reserve home. Walking in the woods surrounded by the sounds of rustling leaves and chirping birds was an experience to treasure forever. And for those seeking tranquillity, a simple meal enjoyed in the open, overlooking the lush green forest was the perfect reprieve.
But what truly set Astroport apart from other resorts was its commitment to sustainable tourism. The entire property was powered by solar energy, making it a self-sufficient and eco-friendly haven. From the moment guests stepped foot onto the premises, they entered a near-zero-plastic zone, where every effort was made to minimize waste and its impact on the environment.
The resort took pride in its organic farming practices, providing farm-to-table meals for its guests. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients were lovingly prepared by the skilled chefs, tantalizing taste buds and nourishing the body. Rainwater harvesting ensured that every drop was utilized efficiently, further contributing to the resort’s sustainable practices. Astroport Sariska became a beacon of hope, showcasing how luxury hospitality and sustainability could coexist harmoniously.
Astroport Sariska, with its luxurious accommodations, serene surroundings, and celestial adventures, had left an indelible mark on my soul. It is a place where one can escape the confines of everyday life and embrace the grandeur of the universe.

Where Luxury Meets Nature- Aalia Jungle Retreat
As soon as I stepped into the Aalia Jungle Retreat and Spa, I was greeted by the pure silence of nature. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this luxury jungle resort felt like a heaven of peace. Situated near the Rajaji National Park in Uttarakhand, this enormous green campus was the latest addition to the Claridge Collection.
The sweet note of a Himalayan bulbul from a nearby Saal tree and the friendly and smiling hospitality staff welcomed us as we entered the resort. The reception area looked like an artistic blend of tradition, nature, and luxury. The collection of books and magazines, indoor games, and wildlife frames on the walls made the place even more alluring.
Already rejuvenated and excited anticipating the hint of a perfect holiday for the coming two days, I headed toward my tent. The sweeping carpet of tall lemon grass and trees created a perfect jungle ambiance. As I unzipped the tent, I was pleasantly surprised by the luxurious accommodation that awaited me. The tent was spacious and had all the modern facilities one could expect from a Clarridges Collection resort. The tent’s colonial charm, simplicity, and contemporary style caught my attention and created an uplifting mood.
The resort had 11 tent accommodations with luxe bathrooms, exquisite furniture, and bespoke lighting. The blend of wilderness and luxury was captured in every aspect, making the resort a perfect holiday destination.
The Food Story
But what made my stay even more memorable was the food. Curated by Chef Ritesh Negi, the multi-cuisine menu at the resort’s restaurant was a delightful culinary experience. From continental to South Indian and North Indian cuisine, every dish had an authentic flavour and ingredients that created a memorable gastronomical experience. The Uttarakhand Devbhoomi Special Thali served during my last dinner at the restaurant was the cherry on the cake, comprising mouth-watering authentic and organic elements.
The Romantic Dinner
The resort had thoughtfully set up a provision for an open outdoor dining area for couples looking to celebrate their special occasions, lit and decorated with candles. As the sun began to set, the sky was painted with hues of oranges and pinks, casting a warm glow over the entire area. Soft background music played, creating a romantic ambiance. The red wine along with every bite was a burst of flavour, expertly crafted by the talented chefs at the resort. We savoured every morsel, enjoying the conversation and the breathtaking view. It was a moment of pure bliss, immersed in the beauty of nature and love.
Activities and Experiences
From jungle safaris and horse riding to archery, spa each activity was a way to integrate with nature and meditate. I enjoyed cycling on the forest path, passing by the troop of monkeys busy searching for breakfast and listening to the chirping of birds. The nature trek accompanied by an expert guide from the resort left me awestruck by the beauty of the surroundings.
Overall, the Aalia Jungle Retreat and Spa is a must-visit destination for all who enjoy luxury and nature. The resort’s immersive wellness experiences, luxurious accommodations, and delicious food created an unforgettable experience. I left the resort with memories of breathtaking landscapes, delightful cuisines, and an overwhelming sense of peace and relaxation.

A Journey Through Time – The Majestic Bawali Rajbari
“This is what the eastern corner of the building temple looked like when I first arrived,” said Ajay Rawla, the current owner of Bawali Rajbari, pointing to a black and white photograph on the wall. It was a chilly winter evening as I sat by the blue pond sipping on my Darjeeling Tea, engaging in conversation with Mr. Ajay about the painstaking restoration of this remarkable property.
We reached Bawali Rajbari in the morning. we were greeted by women dressed in white and red saris who welcomed us with traditional rituals at the main entrance. The warm reception and the sight of the vast property immediately transported us back in time. After settling into our regal room, the Floor Manager Sandeep informed us that Mr. Ajay would be meeting us in the evening.
The magnificence of this historical building fascinated me. Every corner and wall seemed to have a story to tell. As I captured the breathtaking landscapes with my Nikon 5200, the architectural marvels of the Rajbari came into view. Elaborate palaces adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant frescoes stood as a testament to the grandeur of a bygone era.
The present owners had a different plan and vision – to transform it into a heritage hotel. The restoration process paid attention to minute details and struck a delicate balance to preserve the essence of the era.
The next day, we woke up to the sound of birds chirping and the fresh scent of the surrounding gardens. After a refreshing morning walk, we headed to the dining hall for breakfast. The buffet spread amazed us with its variety of dishes. From steaming-hot luchis and aloo dum to fluffy idlis and crispy bacon, there was something for everyone.
Exploring the different parts of the property and hearing the owner’s ideas and stories was an experience in itself. Each unique section, such as Classic Heritage, Notun Bari, Dak Bungalow, Zamindari Suites, and Royal Suites, tempted guests in its own way.
Throughout our stay, we were treated like royals by the staff at the Rajbari. They were attentive and courteous, ensuring that all our needs were met. The service was impeccable, making us feel like honoured guests on this grand property.
During our time at the Rajbari, we explored the different areas of the property. We visited the temple, which had been beautifully renovated and adorned with intricate carvings. The serenity of the place was palpable, and we found ourselves spending moments of quiet contemplation in its peaceful atmosphere.
We also took a stroll around the gardens, admiring the well-manicured lawns and vibrant flowers. The landscaped gardens were a feast for the eyes, and it was easy to lose track of time while meandering through the pathways.
As the moon appeared in the dark sky, decorative lights illuminated the entire building, creating an enchanting ambiance. Women lit diyas along the corridors, turning the surroundings into a scene from a novel by Bengali classic Novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay.
And of course, no discussion of Bawali Rajbari would be complete without mentioning their delectable cuisine. From traditional Bengali dishes that reflect the menus of the Royal Bengali families to continental and Chinese options, every item is prepared with attention to detail, authenticity, and taste. Dinner at the Rajbari was a gastronomic delight. We indulged in mouthwatering delicacies. Continental, Chinese and a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The flavours were authentic and the presentation was impeccable.
As we bid farewell to the Bawali Rajbari, we felt a sense of gratitude for this rare opportunity to experience a slice of history

A Fantasy World : Anopura
Our journey to the secluded luxury hideaway of Anopura began as we left the bustling national capital behind. Despite the cold winter morning, the drizzle that started as we sped down the Mumbai Expressway added to the excitement of our adventure. The cloudy sky, vibrant greenery, and smooth black road provided the perfect backdrop, accompanied by the nostalgic tunes of Kishore Kumar. It truly was an enchanting journey.
As we neared our destination, the bumpy roads took us through the stunning landscape of the Aravalli Mountains. Curving along the greenest part of this majestic range, we finally arrived at the much-anticipated hideaway. The air was filled with the delightful fragrance of Champa flowers, enveloping us in a feeling of freshness. Piyush, the friendly Resident Manager, greeted us with a warm smile, accompanied by his attentive staff.
We were escorted to our luxurious abode, Paradise 360. The name couldn’t have been more fitting, as this glass house cottage was surrounded by verdant trees and colorful flowers. A private temperature-controlled swimming pool awaited us at the front, while the garden on the other side had chairs and tables thoughtfully arranged amidst nature’s embrace. The spacious rooms were equipped with modern amenities, and the bathrooms surprised us with their open showers.
At Anopura, the concept of farm-to-table took on a literal and visual meaning. The dining area was set up amidst the vast farmland, allowing us to savor fresh and organic food while feasting our eyes on the green fields meeting the horizon of the Aravalli Mountains. This unique dining experience was truly unforgettable.
Every corner of the 90-acre property resembled a picturesque frame, meticulously designed to blend with nature and luxury. The cozy bar, located beside the dining area, was no exception. I spent hours there, engrossed in selective books from various genres, sinking lazily into the comfortable sofa while gazing out the window at the dense forest.
The evenings at Anopura were equally delightful. We had the option to explore the sprawling property, which had been carefully maintained to seamlessly merge with the natural landscape of the region. Towering trees, colourful flowers, and a vibrant birdlife made this haven a paradise for birders and those seeking peace and tranquility in a stylish and luxurious setting.
Piyush was kind enough to give us a tour of the property, showcasing the new cluster that featured an infinity pool, where one could indulge in the mesmerizing beauty of sunsets and sunrises with a glass of wine. The bustling dairy farm, with its cattle, ducks, camels, hens, and turkeys, offered a treasure trove of farm experiences. Guests were welcome to participate in activities such as milking and other farm-related tasks. The fishing pond was also a great attraction for those who desired a fishing experience.
After a memorable dinner, arranged amidst the intimate glow of candlelight and accompanied by soulful music, we reluctantly returned to our paradise. The only regret was that the day had to come to an end. However, the allure of the late-night hot water swimming pool under the twinkling December stars was an experience that would forever be etched in our memories.
Our stay in this magnificent establishment proved to be an exceptional and unforgettable experience. The stunning property, combined with the warm hospitality extended by the staff, elevated our stay to a whole new level of luxury.
