Hamburg, May 1, 2025 : The just-concluded Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2025 in Hamburg showcased how cabin configuration and passenger experience technologies are emerging as key differentiators for airlines globally. The three-day expo hosted more than 13,000 visitors from 170 airlines, with strong representation by procurement groups and engineering experts.
Accessibility Takes Center Stage
Several exhibitors demonstrated solutions for passengers with impaired mobility. Collins Aerospace launched new developments in its Prime wheelchair seating system, including convertible cabin monuments. Diehl Aviation presented lavatory concepts with braille markers, voice-guided systems, and adaptive lighting to support visually impaired passengers.
eVTOL Cabin Concepts Emerge
Recaro Aircraft Seating, in collaboration with Eve Air Mobility, presented its first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) seating solution. The lightweight design utilizes aerospace-grade aluminum and composites to optimize energy efficiency for urban air mobility operations.
Connectivity and AI Integration Advances
Airbus and Panasonic Avionics signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop next-generation connected aircraft platforms. Viasat introduced its Amara in-flight connectivity system with the promise of increased bandwidth and digital services. Conference sessions also discussed AI uses for personalized passenger experiences and operating efficiency.
Sustainable Materials Get Momentum
Diehl’s completely recyclable Eco Bin overhead storage and other eco-friendly material innovations were top among the Crystal Cabin Award winners. The industry seems intent on decreasing cabin waste without sacrificing functionality.
Passenger Experience Conference Insights
The previous Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) spoke to inclusive design challenges, where panelists at Priestman Goode and WheelchairTravel.org pushed for dignity-based solutions. Sora Aviation also put forth an unusual 30-seat eVTOL vision targeted at mass urban transit versus luxury transport.
Industry Outlook
With significant orders from carriers such as Riyadh Air and Thai Airways, suppliers cited strong demand for retrofit solutions. As AIX Event Director Archana Dharni said, the exhibition floor was an essential meeting ground for traditional manufacturers and new innovators alike. The show’s year-over-year growth indicates aircraft interiors will continue to be a strategic investment sector for airlines through 2026.
