Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has acquired a 21% stake in Rutland Square Spirits Ltd. Founded by Nishant Sharma, the brand seamlessly blends Dibrugarh’s world-famous tea leaves—sourced from India’s “Tea Capital of the World”—with Scotland’s time-honoured distilling traditions, creating a unique artisanal offering. This collaboration not only celebrates cultural fusion but also highlights the growing synergy between India and Scotland in the global spirits industry.
As part of this landmark partnership, plans are underway to develop a net-zero luxury hotel in Edinburgh, set to redefine sustainable hospitality. The project will feature Scotland’s first Ayurvedic wellness centre and Europe’s first hydrogen-powered facilities, offering guests an unparalleled blend of heritage, innovation, and eco-conscious luxury amidst Scotland’s stunning landscapes.
Vivek Oberoi shared: “I am thrilled to join Rutland Square. This project is an exciting bridge between two economies and cultures. Scotland is a beautiful country with deep-rooted traditions and a strong Indian business community. I look forward to working closely with the team to bring this vision to life. This marks a new chapter in Scotland’s hospitality sector, promising a future of sustainability, heritage, and world-class experiences. Rutland Square Spirits is taking it a step further by curating a blended experience of Indian heritage. I am excited to begin the work of bringing it to life.”
Nishant Sharma, Founder and CEO and Veenu Sharma, Director of Rutland Square said, “We are delighted to welcome Dr Vivek Oberoi to the Rutland Square family. This collaboration is a testament to the strong and growing relationship between Scotland, India, and the wider South Asian community. This partnership goes beyond an investment – we look forward to creating something special, a place that celebrates artisanal craftsmanship, cultural richness, and the warm hospitality that both Scotland and India are known for.”
Rutland Square Spirits has already garnered global acclaim, winning awards like the Scottish Gin Awards Gold , IWSC Bronze, and recognition at the World Gin Awards for its design and innovative flavours. This investment aligns with broader trends in UK-India trade, particularly in the food and beverage sector, which is a key driver of bilateral economic growth. With ongoing negotiations on the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), opportunities for premium spirits and single malts are expected to expand significantly.
This move underscores Vivek Oberoi’s commitment to sustainable luxury and cross-cultural ventures. A global entrepreneur with investments spanning edtech, fintech, agritech, real estate, and hospitality, Oberoi continues to champion transformative enterprises with cultural depth and global impact.
