Some trips become special, some become pure adventures, and some slip into oblivion with time. But travel—every single time—adds something to our soul. It changes our perception, adds experiences, and opens corners of our mind we didn’t know existed. My recent journey to Juna Mahal, Ranthambore, was one such beautifully etched memory—an enchanting mix of history, monsoon magic, and royal hospitality.
The Road to the Kingdom of Tigers
We set off towards the internationally renowned “Kingdom of Tigers”, Ranthambore, on a late-monsoon morning. The drive, though, initially felt unusually jarring but fast and comfortable, thanks to the newly built national highways. But nature had other plans.
Somewhere towards the end, a sudden spell of heavy rain turned the journey into a splash-filled adventure. The water from the core forest came rushing across the roads, a force strong enough to make crossing scary for a moment. Dark clouds loomed above, thunder rolled in the distance, and the air was heady with the smell of wet earth.
By the time we reached the gates of Juna Mahal, it felt like we had accidentally boarded the Hogwarts Express and landed not in London, but in a centuries-old Rajput stronghold.
The heritage fort-like architecture of the property stood tall against the mist, its elegant arches and high walls whispering tales of the royal past.

First Impressions – Like Walking into a Painting
The moment we stepped inside, the lobby took my breath away. On one wall hung a breathtaking painting by a local artist, capturing the soul of the Ranthambore forest with brushstrokes that seemed alive.
The welcome was as warm as the monsoon tea waiting for us—smiling faces, aarti-tikka rituals, and heartfelt greetings from the team, including the General Manager, Avijit Banerjee himself and the Executive Chef. That initial warmth would become a theme for the days to follow.
Vishal Singh, the dynamic Director of Marketing, and our companion to this trip, later shared with me over tea, “We want Juna Mahal to be more than a stay. It should be an experience—a place where you let go of the rat race and reconnect with your soul. Nature, peace, and royal hospitality—we bring them together here.”

Architecture – Old Soul Meets Modern Comfort
Juna Mahal is a beautiful blend of heritage Rajasthani design and modern luxury. The property is part of Victora Hospitality (also known for Radisson Blu Greater Noida), and their attention to detail shows everywhere—from the chuna mitti (lime-mud) and wooden craftsmanship of the walls to the grand courtyards and traditional arches.
Spread across the estate is a 42-key property—28 rooms in the opulent heritage wing and 14 newly added luxury villas inspired by Spanish tavern architecture. Each villa is named after a famous Ranthambore tiger or tigress—Machli, T-17, Sultan (my abode for two days) names that carry the jungle’s legacy.

Each villa or room has a special feature—some with spacious terraces, some with private plunge pools, and others doubling as lavish two-bedroom suites for families or intimate gatherings.
The Heart of the Mahal – The Pool Courtyard
At the centre lies a large swimming pool, functioning almost like the heart of the property. Its placement reminded me of how water bodies often stood at the centre of royal cities in Rajasthan—a gathering point, a mark of prosperity. The villas, walls, and walkways rise around it, their textures glowing warmer with each rain-washed sunset.
In the evenings, the courtyard came alive with high tea rituals—pottery-making corners, live folk music, and Rajasthani dance performances. Watching the kalbeliya dancers twist against the rain-washed backdrop, sipping masala chai, I realised I hadn’t even thought of chasing a “tiger sighting” yet. This place was offering a different kind of safari—one into the wilderness of slowing down.

A Room with Peace as a Companion
In the evening, we found ourselves in a suite with a private terrace, and that outdoor space became our personal monsoon retreat. As the torrential rains arrived in the evening, we sat there, wrapped in the cool breeze, watching the mist curl through the Aravalli hills.

The storm and the rain gave us something city life never does—forced freedom from phone signals and notifications. I didn’t realise how much I needed it until I leaned back, letting the wind wash my thoughts clean.
It was in one of these calm moments that Vishal spoke again of his vision for Juna Mahal:
“This isn’t just for tiger chasers or wildlife photographers. It’s for anyone—families, corporates, friends, couples—who want to truly pause and taste life without hurry.”
Flawless Hospitality and Royal Dining
If the architecture was the body of Juna Mahal, the hospitality was its beating heart. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, always one step ahead of guests’ needs.
Dining here was another highlight—food was authentic, flavorful, and delightfully diverse. The Executive Chef curated each meal like a story, from Rajasthani lal maas and gatte ki sabzi to international bakes and hand-made desserts. But what made it memorable was the warmth—plates served with genuine smiles, and often with a special recommendation, “because you must try it, sir.”
Nights in the Wild
As night fell, the rain softened to a gentle drizzle. The pool reflected the golden glow of lanterns, and the surrounding wilderness began its nightly chorus—crickets, owls, the distant rumble of clouds.
Walking back to the room felt like travelling between two worlds—the wild outside and the cocoon of comfort within.
Final Morning – A Brisk Walk into Stillness
On our last morning, I took a brisk walk around the property as clouds still clung low over the hills. The rain-kissed air was pure, the pathways glistened, and the staff were already bustling to set up the breakfast buffet. I stood for a while watching the raindrops ripple across the pool, feeling a strange gratitude for this trip that had arrived in my life like a well-timed rain shower.

Why Juna Mahal
In a region where most travellers rush from safari to safari, Juna Mahal encourages an unhurried version of Ranthambore. Here, you can spend days without once stepping into a jeep, and yet return home with stories of architecture, rain-drenched views, soulful music, and heartfelt connections.
Perfect for:
– Family leisure trips
– Corporate events and retreats
– Close group celebrations
– Couple getaways
Some properties offer luxury. Some offer nature. Juna Mahal offers both, wrapped in a heritage embrace, with hospitality that feels personal. Or as Vishal Singh put it best before we left: “You don’t just check into Juna Mahal—you check out of the world for a while.”
And I couldn’t have said it better myself.
